As a fan of both guys’ wrestling work, Bryan on Total Divas was basically the most wholesome guy ever who chopped wood and was a sweet vegan husband to Brie and Ric is the guy who brought out Lil’ Ricky in places Lil’ Ric isn’t supposed to be. He’s not going to be winning the “best representative for 2021 wrestling today” fights. Ric is also not the best representative of wrestling flights.

I'll try and look at this from Flair's perspective: it's possible that, given the names and the wording he uses, he's viewing this largely from the perspective of someone's ability to play babyface or heel in a way that would thrive in the territory era. In that regard, yeah, Flair was the heel, Steamboat was the ultimate babyface, etc.
Danielson can play either role, but he's really made an art of just playing himself, and allowing quirks in his personality to dictate which side of the aisle he leans towards in any given match or feud. Since his earliest days in ROH, he's been able to go back and forth with little difficulty: after all, his pure talent and ability can easily make him arrogant and give him major heel tendencies, but his tenacity, skill, and often underdog size against larger opponents give him great babyface attributes.
However, Danielson doesn't lean hard into either most of the time; instead, he lets the situation dictate the role he's going to play. In a way, he kind of helped develop the modern concept of a tweener; the concept has been around longer than he has on the scene, of course, but he's able to play it because he puts everything through a simple prism of "how would a guy who's on the whole a good dude yet also fundamentally aware of how damn great he is at what he does and not afraid to say it act in this situation?"
I'm not sure that's what would've flown in a lot of territories back in the day; some, for sure, but maybe not the circles Flair spent the most time in. This doesn't make Flair's opinion right to me, mind: I still think Danielson is a revelation of a talent and arguably the greatest of his era, or at least in the top five (I basically think that among wrestlers with decent exposure, only Omega and Okada are currently on his overall level), and the idea that Styles is better than him doesn't really add up to me. AJ's great, he's A-level, but I can't quite put him on Dragon's S-tier.

Isn't it funny how Ric always has a low opinion of guys when he thinks that doing so will score points in the eyes of WWE management? Ask Bret, Kanyon and so on. By all accounts like most of the backstage people in WWE love Bryan (Vince included) ... so I'm not sure why Ric would think that. Right. And Bryan couldn't have left on better terms to the point where a lot of folks seem to think before he hangs it up for good, he has at least a match in the WWE before going into the HOF

Apparently there was a legend during Bryan's younger days that recognized his potential and said he would've loved to go one on one with him. That legend was Nick Bockwinkel.

Ric Flair on Randy Savage "To this day, I have a lot of respect for Randy. I don’t think he’s a great worker"
coupled with his comments on Foley and Bret, I would say Bryan is in some pretty great company there

He's a pretty good representative of helicopters.
