If it were anyone but Hogan, I'd call BS, but come on, we know how two faced, vain and overly protective of his image he is. He sued WCW because he was called bald in a promo despite being visibly bald since the eighties, he absolutely would react to hearing fans are saying a job guy looks like him by trying to get them fired.
Bet the kissass guy was Brutus Beefcake.

I met Kevin backstage at a CZW show a few years ago. He was such a gentleman who talked to everyone as if he was their best friend. The timing of Dave's being let go by WCW is a little confusing with what he is saying. Kevin is a soft spoken man, he actually seems pretty shy and I don't think he's the type of guy to lie so he might be confused about this. Of course, Dave only did the Hogan fan gimmick briefly and it was almost two years later he was let go.
I did also meet Dave on my birthday at a family buffet the night before Super Brawl V in my area. It was him and Alex Wright and Wildcat Willie. I was a huge fan of both guys. The funny thing is, the buffet didn't advertise who would be there but if you called they said "Alex Wright and a Hogan Hogan impersonator." So I can see Hogan not wanting him around but it's weird Hogan would be upset two years after the gimmick ended. I will say the Hogan fan gimmick is probably the best thing that could happen to Dave or at least I think it was. He got the most fame out of the gimmick but I think if he had stuck around simply as Equalizer he may have gone under the radar and would be one of those guys who sits at home for most of the time, while being paid insane Turner money.

Dave Sullivan only did the Hulkamaniac fan gimmick until spring 1995 then went into that rehashed Savage/Steele storyline with DDP and Kimberly, after that feud ended he just had a midcard feud with Big Bubba Rogers over Bubba being allergic to Ralph the rabbit. So if Hogan had him fired over looking like him he at least let him stay through 1995 He also had his hair cut by Sullivan/Butcher in very late 94/early 95 and he changed to green tights shortly thereafter. Kevin is lying

Wasn’t Dave’s gimmick that he was a Hulk Hogan fan though?? That was the bloody point! Evad Sullivan was the biggest Hulkamaniac on the planet, to the point where he came out to "I Wanna Be a Hulkamaniac", and that drew Kevin's ire in kayfabe.

This. You look at it and it seems ridiculous, and then you remember it's f***ing Hulk Hogan and begin to look at it differently. I feel like he'd still probably just ask for them to repackage Dave. Maybe they did ask that of him, or maybe they just decided to get rid of him. He'd been in WCW for like 3-4 years, and was just not really any good. WCW was slashing and burning a lot of guys as it was, so he made a lot of sense as someone to axe, regardless. I wonder if, like a lot of these stories, the truth is somewhere in the middle of everything. I do find it entirely conceivable that Hogan had the arse over someone lesser looking like him, but whether or not it resulted in said person's contract being immediately terminated is another thing entirely.
Dave Sullivan was indeed f***ing terrible though. A few months ago out of sheer curiosity I went back and watched some of his pre-Evad stuff when he was The Equalizer, and apart from his in-ring work being wretched, I can't recall seeing a monster heel - especially one who seemed to be a Bruiser Brody tribute with the furry boots and charging around - with so little presence.

I would love to know if Dave even knows about this, if it is true. He hasn't done anything, to the best of my knowledge wrestling related in 25 years or at least nothing that is well known. He did do an autograph signing recently or at least was scheduled to do one with promoter Captain's Corner.

For sure, I can believe this sort of thing being the catalyst for why they dropped the Hogan tribute gimmick in early 95 and then more or less kicked Evad out of Hogan/Kevin Sullivan's orbit spinning Evad into different a story line with DDP. But certainly not the reason he was let go from the company especially nearly two years after the impersonator gimmick had run its course And yeah I think it from Mick Foley's first book where everyone whom had ever worked with Evad always said: "Nice guy, but crappy worker."

Practically twins. Nah. When they are side-by-side like this you can see Dave on the left doesn't look like Hogan that much.

It's cool to see George Napalitano there. That man is to wrestling photography what Bill Apter is to magazines!

That's part of it, I think, that I could see even something meant in service of Hulk's ego backfiring, with him thinking, "Wait, this is just kind of making me look lame..." Still, like you say, Dave was pretty awful. I can buy Hulk didn't say to fire him, but repackage, and WCW thinking, "It's simply not worth it." He'd been repackaged multiple times at this point, after all.

I have known Kevin for about five years now. He's been honest and consistent. He's also been going more into "IDGAF, I'll give more detail/expound up this story." personally and publicly. Maybe it wasn't this blunt or direct but I totally could see this happening.

I really think Kevin has been around so long and been dropped on his head. He gets storylines confused for stuff that happened behind the scenes. Yes. And one such example had dire consequences, of course.

Maybe it wasn't this blunt or direct but I totally could see this happening. I've always found him intelligent, insightful and thought he was pretty fair in the shoots I've heard. He does lay a lot of blame at Hogan's door, but that shouldn't really surprise anyone, especially insecure mid 90's Hogan.
