Meltzer shared this info in his Daily Update and I thought it would be cool to post here. It's the recent cases of wrestling shows switching channels and the immediate effect it had on their viewership:
- 9/25/00 Raw moves from USA (last show 6,940,000 viewers) to TNN (first show 7,110,000 viewers) - 10/3/05 Raw moves from Spike (last show 4,020,000 viewers) to USA (first show 5,569,000 viewers) - 10/3/08 Smackdown moves from CW (4,411,000 viewers) to My Network (3,160,000) - 10/1/10 Smackdown moves from My Network (2,770,000) to Syfy (2,520,000) - 1/7/15 Impact moves from Spike (980,000) to Destination America (359,000) - 1/5/16 Impact moves from Destination America (155,000) to Pop TV (255,000) - 1/7/16 Smackdown moves from Syfy (2,284,000) to USA (2,757,000) - 10/4/19 Smackdown moves from USA (2,099,000) to FOX (3,888,000)

Interesting for me personally on the RAW switch, I don’t think it had to with the channels, but RAW’s run on Spike is the only time I didn’t really watch any wrestling.

Interesting numbers here. I guess a big factor is how big or well known is the channel. You can see this with Impact moving from Spike to Destination America to PopTV, bitchin'! Also if the channel is basic cable/higher cable tiers/ or free tv. One thing you have to give WWE is they know how to promote when they move to a new channel.

It's honestly mind blowing that Impact lost almost 2/3 of their audience basically overnight. Over 600K people who just stopped watching the product.

I mean, ok. I'm Canadian. They switched from TSN to Sportsnet. It's like 10 channels down.

A super old school example would be the WWF being on WOR-TV for the longest time in the NYC market, then gradually switching over to the Fox stations (WNYW 5 here).

I believe that happened the fall of 1987. I remember becoming a fan by switching channels on Saturday morning and seeing this and I became a fan. I can’t remember the first wrestler I saw though. I distinctly remember watching them during XMas 87 & XMas 88.

Smackdown has always been on The Score/Sportsnet 360 Which actually leads me to something Meltzer does which annoys me, he always just lists the Sportsnet rating but for most of its existence Smackdown has been available on American networks that are available either on basic cable or farmer vision depending on where you live. You used to be able to get Fox Rochester without cable for example.

I think that's more about how few people had the Bigfoot Channel. On the old TNA board here when the change was announced the majority of the regulars reported they didn't have the channel. Luckily I was one of the few that did.

He left off Impact moving to AXS. I don't know if he left it off so much as the data for one side of it or the other wasn't available to him.

Luckily I was one of the few that did. Luckily? The Friday 10 PM Eastern time slot was also terrible, and the non-Impact shows on the Pursuit Channel were indeed bad. I think there were also times when Pursuit would mistakenly air the previous week's episode more than once.

Dixie was actually gone from Impact by that time, if that's what you meant.
