What I get out of it...
Hulkamania is like a cult.
Even Johnny knows the Irish Whip should make no sense in real life physics.

Hulk Hogan was the only Professional Wrestler to appear on The Carson Show. Others never appeared because Carson had contempt for the business. I remember a couple of jokes where he referred to the business as "TV Wrestling".

I always find it really cringe when people think they're so clever by "cracking the mystery" of pro wrestling being fake.
Honestly if it isn't completely obvious then I don't know what to tell you.

I had a coworker in her 60's who used to point out it was fake and how the wrestlers were putting on an act any time me and another coworker would talk about it. We would argue with her and put on like we thought it was real and she would chuckle and shake her head like she was the smartest person in the room.

Johnny's comedy seems pretty outdated to me unlike some from his era who are timeless. I bet Vince and Gorilla loved a comedian like Johnny.

But that was more as a strong man/ bizarre personality.

I wonder if it's so much contempt on Johnny's part as much as just, knowing a work, like how he relished in humiliating Uri Geller and exposing him.

Did Carson have magicians on his show and treat them like that? Uri Geller I get because he was a magician pretending to be more than that. Wrestling is just wresting. It’d be like acting smug and saying “You didn’t really saw that lady in half. She’d be dead!”

It’d be like acting smug and saying “You didn’t really saw that lady in half. She’d be dead!” I guess the difference is that magicians' whole conceit is it's a trick, whereas Uri Geller always professed, and still does, to be a real psychic. Wrestlers in the '80s more often than not really clung to the presentation of it being totally real, so I could see that being a little ridiculous to him on that front. Of course, sometimes he was just a jerk.

It’s actually easy to forget that he was still really famous even before he became the guy in the WWF. I believe he’s still in the AWA when this took place. So Vince certainly did not even create Hulk Hogan.

Johnny always did strike me as a host who would look down on others, unlike a Jay Leno who despite his fame and fortune always was willing to come off as an "every man." And I think a guy like Johnny gave birth to the type of hosts over the last 20 years who have a higher and mightier act towards their audience.

I wish someone would answer the Irish Whip question like this "We train so many hours in this ring, running the ropes, that it becomes hardwired; it's become automatic at this point".

So Vince certainly did not even create Hulk Hogan. 1982 means it was almost guaranteed to be Rocky III related but Hogan would’ve absolutely been an AWA wrestler at that point. He went to AWA in early 1981
