Good for Scotty. Always been a big fan, how could I not be for a fellow Mainer, and I'm glad he kind of called out the crap that was happening. I agree with his take on needing guys with passion as well. He's been around long enough that he's seen the pendulum swing both ways several times so he kind of sounds like he knows it'll swing back at some point.
Hard to believe Scotty was working live events for them as far back as 1994 and he's still not even 50 years old.

Horrible that the trainers/coaches aren't alerted ahead of time and he is learning of the releases the same time we are too.

And when the guy came back he was allowed to work a part Time schedule and become pretty much the most important guy on the roster since Cena stepped down |

Guy has a lot of good insight into the business. I dunno what his future plans are, but I think he'd make for a great coach/trainer/producer wherever he decided to go next.

Worked out great for Brock. He left, made his name in a hotter industry and came back bigger than the business. Now he gets to hold them up for massive pay while never showing any real increase in business. Nothing good really came out of Brock for WWE. They paid him a fortune only to see business drop and then he left them high and dry. Now they pay him a fortune to work less than anyone else in the company for no appreciable benefit. |

Scotty comes off awesome here, even though it's a shame he left. Younger athletes or even young people in any job need a guy like him as a mentor. Even if he were to move on to something non wrestling, there are so many people who would benefit.
A guy like Scotty to me is very interesting because he has been around for so long yet with him mostly being a lower tier match guy I guess he wasn't around a lot of bad influence/drug users like others his age at the time may have been. I hope he can find something that he's passionate about.

You need some veterans on your roster to help them along. However when hiring people you want to hire people who are young. One because they are going have more potential longevity then an older guy and secondly they are who younger fans which who they are trying to target who are going to relate to a cool young guy or girl then someone who is in their late 30's. The way he worded it made it sound like young people cannot be passionate about the business. Like there are young people in their early to mid 20's who can be passionate about the business. It's not like they don't exist.

I think it's less about young people and more about people who've never really had any exposure to pro wrestling getting into it and just assuming they'll all adapt to it, specifically to WWE's version of its schedule and things like that. There's been plenty of former college/pro athletes who've made the jump to wrestling over the years and done very well, but when your default scouting/hiring position is to almost actively avoid anyone with wrestling experience and place the emphasis on people who don't know what the industry entails, then you can't be surprised if it gets harder to communicate how much passion one needs to put up with the trials and tribulations inherent to a tough business that, in WWE, also involves a massive amount of travel. |

Fast forward and he’s jumping off a cage on a TNA PPV for 30k ppv buys For every Brock and Kurt, they've probably had a half dozen Nathan Jones types, or more, most of which we never heard about, or just forget since why wouldn't we? I will say they've definitely made their money many times over on Brock and Kurt, and WCW with Goldberg, but if you try to chase only those kinds, you're going to be in for a world of hurt. I think a good example of someone learning passion eventually would be Sting. He got into wrestling because he worked at a gym, had a body, so he, Warrior, and a handful of other dudes looked to get scouted for wrestling. Only Sting and Warrior got picked, and after sucking and just really not getting anywhere, Warrior ditched Sting to go to Texas to become a singles star. Sting was fortunate enough to have guys who saw something in him and he eventually would begin to really get it. It went from just a means to an end for money, maybe parleying it into an acting career, into an actual career. |
