I'm not sure if this topic has already been discussed on another thread, but I really want to talk about this.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that this is one of the stupidest practices that WWE has done. First Money in the Bank, then Survivor Series, and now Royal Rumble. Because it happened for the first two, I am not in the least bit surprised that Twitter had announced some participants of the women's Rumble match.
However, with all of this being said, this practice really takes the fun out of the Royal Rumble. Now I will still watch it, but part of the fun of the Rumble matches is wondering who will come out next, especially one-off appearances. Announcing participants on social media shows signs of laziness, which shows that I am stating the obvious, but still.
What are your thoughts on this?

Eh. It really doesn't matter.
Rumble participants were never really 100% secret anyway. The early ones started with a name by name run down of who was in the match.

I'm just glad they're not announcing all the rumble participants on Twitter like they did for Survivor Series tag matches.

I'd like ALL the participants to be a secret but we can't have cool things. I think keeping someone like Lita a surprise would be a god idea. Even though I like Summer Rae, doesn't matter either way.
The pop for a surprise is larger.

This is something else that could’ve gone in the Old Man Yells at Cloud thread, but I completely agree. I remember in the 90’s when they would announce around 5 participants a week on Superstars/Wrestling Challenge, and you tuned in not only for that week’s matches, but for the announcement, and watching the field fill up as a sort of bracketology.

See, I sort of like it in a way because it gets more interaction with the viewership and has them another avenue to promote the show with, especially if it gets them to want to watch the show.
With Survivor Series, the concept was great, changing almost everyone on said teams after you announced them for illogical reasons pretty much killed the trust I have in them using it as an avenue. Like, if you announced on social media that Trish was in the Rumble, I’d expect Adam Pearce to announce she wasn’t actually in it and her spot’s going to, like, Dana Brooke or something.
Like most things with WWE, the idea is great, the execution is horrendously lacking.
