So just wanted to write it out in case anyone has to go through it or have any tips:
Back in 1999, I was 18. My Grandfather was diagnosed with cancer. We were all upset. At one point he need to get blood donated. Naturally all family came to donate and all was good. I donated, first time, no biggie, everyone wanted to help.
This is 90's so I didn't have cell phone yet. So a couple days after donating I came home from school. The hospital called my Mother. My blood came back "partially positive" for Hep-C. Of course Mother, Me, family were sad. They asked me to come back in to give blood to confirm. I did. The results came in as a "false positive". Whew, we were all happy, Naturally. They asked me to give one more time to confirm, I did. Again, negative. I was good. Everyone happy. I wasn't mad, mistakes happen.
Now, over the years haven't donated mainly cause of work schedule, no donating collecting in area, and I admit, laziness. But, today was gonna be different. They were collecting in my area. I took time off work, made appointment. So, just went to try donating for first time in 20+ years.
It was one of those donating buses outside business. I check in, go on bus and start paperwork with check in nurse. She pulls up my name, I'm still in system but with a 'DNR' (Do Not Receive). But, even the nurse found it odd, as their was no reason listed. She tried calling her manager, he wasn't in. So I have to sit and wait while she discusses with other nurses what to do, which was embarrassing cause and other people in donating so they could all hear.
They decided I can't donate but gave me number to head manager. I called him. He says case is so old he has to go relook me up in the "paper files" to figure it out. But now I have to take another day off work to go give more blood and what not at one of their labs so they can "clear" my name and allow me back in system. Sometimes you think to yourself: why is it always me?
