I'm just glad this isn't the Attitude Era. Russo would've totally made Imperium full on Neo Nazis after seeing American History X. I mean he did name a dude's finisher the Hollycaust.

You are really, REALLY defending a multi-billion dollar company for not being bothered to Google a name and find out they shouldn't use it because Nazis. I particularly like how you say the WWE is "stupid, evil, and racist", yet still defend them for using an actual Nazi's name. You're a special kinda special. I'm not defending them. I'm saying "this is almost certainly what happened, because it makes sense". The truth matters more than posturing about Nazis for valuable internet points, or even better, making nasty insinuations about the character of people who don't buy into absurd conspiracy theories and just think WWE picked a name they thought sounded cool and didn't google it, something they have literally done before more than once.
So, your entire argument on this is basically "While I admit that the company is both evil and racist, it is acceptable because they are literally too stupid to use a computer for 15 seconds so as not to pick a name that is...*checks notes*...evil and racist. They've even done it several times before, see!? They're just too dumb to know better!" Like....you are actually justifying a company doing a shitty thing by going "Well, yeah, but they're dumb." I wish I knew what you were on to think that that is a stance to be not only held, but expressed out loud, because that is some STRONG shit.

I feel it needs to be stated:
They trademarked Gunther Stark. They didn’t trademark just Gunther. They went through the process of deciding on this name, checking to see if it was trademarked, so they can go ahead and claim it for themselves.
They only reverted to Gunther because they received backlash throughout the day as details emerged. This was no accident, this was no honest mistake. They swapped the name Gunther Stark to Gunther because they were caught with their hand in the Nazi jar. Any goodwill or benefit of the doubt they receive here is unearned after the Saudi stuff, the Hirohito stuff, just so many other examples of them not being worthy of pausing to find best intentions. Guaranteed, if this didn’t leak yesterday, we would be talking about Gunther Stark right now.

Leave it to the WWE to screw this up. I know NXT UK isn't part of WWE canon, but he's been signed to your company using the name on a show that everyone knows is yours. He should be a license to print money and you guys start screwing with things.

I wish I knew what you were on to think that that is a stance to be not only held, but expressed out loud, because that is some STRONG shit. Normal names don't become "evil and racist" just because they happen to be shared by one of the 18 million men who were in the Wehrmacht. And if they do, then his real name is even more evil and racist (but it isn't, it's just a name). What they've done in the past is not anything like this, which is why I deem it incredibly unlikely they researched the name of a very obscure and unnoteworthy submarine commander to give to a wrestler, when Vince's idea of an appropriate World War II reference was calling Kenzo Suzuki "Hirohito" (something else, by the way, he did no research before trying or he'd have known it was a very bad idea). Like, what exactly about WWE's history makes you think it is in the slightest bit plausible that somebody went "Let's give Walter a 'Nazi name', but make it somebody nobody's ever heard of that didn't accomplish anything, and also change it slightly"? For what reason would they do this? And if they did, why did he not debut with the full name, rather than just "Gunther"? Why is it so hard for you to believe they're just dumb and just didn't google it, something they have demonstrably not done before debuting names multiple times in the past? Why does somebody pointing out this obvious truth make you assume there's a problem with them? People can be bad people and that still doesn't mean you're obliged to believe every conspiracy theory about them somebody on the Internet makes up. You are still supposed to engage in critical thinking about it.

They got caught putting Nazi shit on their show and quickly tried to pivot. It's not a defendable action.

What is happening?
Why is "They didn't take two seconds to check if they were using Nazi names because poor WWE is too dumb to do the right thing" acceptable?
If a lie of omission is still a lie, why is "indefensible action due to obscene ignorance" suddenly defendable?
I said it yesterday, we are inching closer and closer to Nick Spencer writing a comic about Nazis, crying about modern day Nazis getting punched in the face, and still having the audacity to say, "But it's not about Nazis!"

OK, we're starting to go around in circles here. Nothing's gonna be said that at this point that will change anyone's mind, and we'll just end up getting angry posters and angry mods and suspended/banned posters and that's not good for anyone.
We'll unlock this thread if there's any new information about this situation.
