On foible that people don't realise: The blockchain is law when it comes to ownership of these dumbass things. Get your (url to) stupid ugly ape pics transferred to someone else because someone got access to your wallet illegally? They own them now, and there's jack you can do about it. Because, as long as the blockchain's validators agree it was a legal transfer, then it is. You also can't change anything on the blockchain, you can only add to it. You can't invalidate the entry that states DumbIdiotTooMuchMoney transferred UglyMonkey_NFT to KimJongUnForever. It's there for the life of the blockchain.
It's the dumbest thing, it's like when they came up with this shit they went all out on preventing Man-In-The-Middle attacks and ignored the most common type of fraud: The type where the problem is bad data going into the system (Phishing, social engineering that type of stuff).

It's almost like reverse engineering an entire economic sector around what was explicitly an experiment in computing was a bad idea

The fact you can send someone an NFT with the code of "All of our NFTs are sent to me" and you can just never touch or interact with the NFT or it will execute that code, and you don't need to approve inbound traffic into your wallet, make for a cumulative mess of oversight that almost doesn't seem f***ing real and makes the fact people are dumping billions into this tech downright sad.

I never got the appeal of these NFTs. Why people are wasting their money on something so sketchy is beyond me.

I never got the appeal of these NFTs. Why people are wasting their money on something so sketchy is beyond me. One part paid influencer shilling these things as the next hot item without disclosing how much they were really paid to do so, one part fomo from regular people and a dash of less than stellar coverage by the press, telling people they're being sold for big numbers and really easy to make and glossing over all the scams, the crypto encirtonmental issues and all the wash trading needed to make the nuumber big.

Man this thread just says we're in late stage capitalism. Scams the same, just got more fierce. But seriously, it's pretty rich that the people crowing about an unregulated currency are getting victimized because of the lack of protections they thought were a good idea in the first place.
