Both men were mainstays with WCW during certain eras and I think largely forgotten since they hadn't been with a major promotion for some time. I know Gary has, or still done, his book tour which is popular and Dave maintains a twitter. He had a really good but short interview with Lex Luger a few years back at an autograph signing where Lex was really happy to see him.
I think both guys were great but something about David I liked a bit better, maybe it was the deeper voice. I do also think Gary holds some bitterness about leaving WWF many years ago. Him calling Vince "Vinny" seemed less of trying to be funny and more of a personal bitterness towards him because he didn't stay on during the glory years.
Again, I thought both guys were great and they both fit the era really well-Gary with the earlier days or WCW where it was a wrestling promotion but not exactly competition with WWF while Dave was during the "War" days and fit well with that.
The worst, of course was Michael Buffer. I never got his "gimmick" and didn't care about him telling me a guy wore a certain color with a certain trim and spending such a long time on the announcements. He was an overused example of a celebrity who didn't care about the product and was just there for the pay day, much like a WWE Raw guest host era celebrity. And he really confused me with the Randy Peterson announcement. I thought it was like bizarre world Dave/Earl Hebner. I thought there were two twin guys named Randy but they had two different last names {Anderson and Peterson, because Buffer botched the announcement).

Gary definitely. And not just cause I met him and he's a nice guy.
David however I can't get the OSW imitations of him out of my head.

Dave was the youth but Gary was seasoned kinda like when they replaced The Fink with Tony Chimmal on Raw in 97

Gary Michael Cappetta for me. He's second to the Fink in my opinion.

I like Dave Penzer and Gary Michael Capetta equally for different reasons. I guess Penzer edges Capetta out for me, as I had more exposure to him during the Nitro and Thunder days. It's great that Penzer has been doing the introductions for Impact Wrestling recently.
Michael Buffer was used to give the matches a big fight feel, announcing it like a boxing match. It was always great when he said his catchphrase, it always pumped the crowd up. Unfortunately he sometimes got names and details wrong.

OSW ruined Dave Penzer for me.

Gary Michael Cappetta for me. He's second to the Fink in my opinion. Same. Dude's super underrated for making introductions sound important and professional. Also, his "THIS. IIIIIS. STIIIIIING!" is still one of my favorite personalized wrestler intros ever.

Gary Michael Cappetta for me. He's second to the Fink in my opinion. Same. Dude's super underrated for making introductions sound important and professional. Also, his "THIS. IIIIIS. STIIIIIING!" is still one of my favorite personalized wrestler intros ever. I went to his book signing and he did the Sting intro and it was awesome. He also is a friend of a friend of a friend of mine so I know he's a great guy. The book signing was awesome. He did like an hour show with q&a after the end and it was one of the few wrestling related things my grandfather liked, as he took me to all the wrestling shows or signings when I was younger. The announcer position is strange. It's not like a commentator team where there is two or three and sometimes there's rotations and it's not like a backstage interviewer position where there's turnover every few years (i.e. Craig DeGeorge to Sean Mooney to Todd to Michael Cole). It probably says a lot about the importance to the announcer position that they keep the same guys for many years. So on one hand it shows how much Gary or Dave meant to the company at their times but it shows you can't just bring them in to replace someone in WWF or other companies during the times. I think if Gary had been a little younger, started with WCW in the early 90s, he would have been offered a WWF contract later on.

Both are great...but, I gotta go with Penzer, he's still going strong in 2022.
