The 2012 #RoyalRumble is perhaps *the* most underrated of all the Rumbles. It's the only year this side of the millennium (prior to tonight) you couldn't just point to one or two competitors as the "for sure" winner(s). You had 5-6 believable stories for plausible winners and some genuine surprises.
Watching it today in a vacuum, it's criticized for a lack of star power. The night of the show, it was criticized for Jericho not winning (even after a fantastic closing sequence with Sheamus). But watching it live, it had so many memorable and fun moments. Truly top tier.

Truly top tier. honestly, I was hyped as hell for Sheamus winning it live. I was not a fan of the 2012 return of Jericho, and thought it was an incredibly boring redebut(also not a fan of "c'mon drink Punk!" feud). The undercard was super fun, and the amount of surprises in the Rumble itself? I think it's very underrated. it's also hilarious looking back that NWA TV Champion Tyrus squashed former WWE World Champion Drew McIntyre on the show.

FUN FACT: The logo on Tyrus' tights that night was designed by someone who posts on this forum that had no idea he was going to use his design.

2012 is just a blast to watch. Fun moment after fun moment and one where it felt like a lot of guys had something to do.
I know people scoff at the various legend appearances and the announcers getting it, but it's a match that (early slow start aside) avoids a lot of dead moments, always makes me smile when I watch it.

About the only things I remember about it are the ending exchange and thinking Sheamus was 100% the correct winner. Seeing how shitty the Punk / Jericho feud wound up being only makes me all the more secure in that opinion now, even if they didn't exactly stick the landing with Sheamus / Bryan either.

My main problem with it is the "End of the world as you know it" having no good payoff but that's honestly more on the Punk/Jericho feud being lame than Sheamus winning over Jericho, even if I would have liked Jericho to get one Rumble win in his career.

It absolutely was the right decision. I know fans wanted Jericho to win a Rumble but Sheamus was the correct choice to get him over as a face. The booking from Mania onwards makes it look like a bad decision but that’s on WWE not Sheamus. Jericho should have won in 2017 and faced Owens for the Universal title at Mania. The Rumble itself? Not a fan. Considering they went to 40 guys a year earlier it’s amazing how thin the roster got.
