I've seen people sour on all 3 of these guys for different reasons lately. But there is a lot of historical significance because of what actually happened from this in 2016.
Going back to Summerslam 2016 ending. It was to build up and be Brock Lesnar vs. Shane at Wrestlemania 33. Until Brock said no thanks and gave his old friend Bill a call.
Once that happened and Bill returned, then came Survivor Series 2016 and the 1:26 match that built to their showdown at Wrestlemania 33.
People have countered this decision for the Goldberg/Lesnar match because Goldberg couldn't go anymore. All his matches were short. This effectively killed the Owens-Jericho feud. Goldberg had killed Owens did in his squash.
Jericho was so mad, this is what made him leave the company and the trickle down effect is he started AEW with a few others a few years later.
Meanwhile, if you went the Shane route, chances are Jericho and Owens are happy, get their main event blow off. And AEW may not exist?
So which route should we have all taken in August 2016 knowing what we know now?

I didn't care about the build at all, but I'm glad we got that wild ass Brock vs. Goldberg match at WM 33. I wish Goldberg would've just stayed retired after it, but money talks and all that.

I didn't care about the build at all, but I'm glad we got that wild ass Brock vs. Goldberg match at WM 33. I wish Goldberg would've just stayed retired after it, but money talks and all that. Just think though, the long term effect of this is. Goldberg has been with the company the last 6 years and to many, he's had stinkers everywhere. If Goldberg never got his chance at this time, he may never have come back. So basically thanks to Brock calling up Goldberg, we have him to thank for being around the last few years. So I guess it comes down to Goldberg or Jericho staying happy and staying in WWE. I think if most of us had a say, it definitely would've probably be no to Goldberg and yes to Jericho winning the Universal title at Wrestlemania 33. So I guess we have Brock to thank for everything today. No Jericho. AEW. Goldberg collecting checks. Crazy how one change to creative altered a lot of wrestling history. Plus the heat with Brock and Shane at the Rumble too.

So we got an excellent Brock-Goldberg match, Shane's best Mania match ever vs AJ Styles and eventually we got AEW?
Seems like the correct call was made.
Also, Jericho was completely justified in being upset. Jericho-Owens had an absolutely fantastic build and the match completely delivered. I think the bad reputation it has is from people parroting Vince McMahon not liking it as it's one of the very few matches we have footage of him outright disliking.

I've hardly been a fan on current era Goldberg, that said. I'd rather watch Brock & Goldberg try to go 30 minutes together in the year 2032 than watch Brock have to deal with Shane for 30 seconds now.

I think TNT execs were pushing Tony to sign Goldberg at the beginning. So maybe in this scenario Goldberg was the first AEW champion.

You think a Lesnar mark like me wants to see Brock sell THOSE punches!?

You know, if they decided to do Brock v. Shane v. Goldberg match at WM, I think it would be pretty fun. The three of them together might be able to highlight all of their strengths while masking their individual weaknesses.
Brock suplexes.
Goldberg spears.
Shane, um... sweats a lot while getting beat up, and then jumps off the staging or something.
Keep it under 10 minutes, and I could see it being a fun, spectacle match.

Goldberg coming back actually felt special. Yes it buggered Owens, they shouldn't have booked it, but he had an aura and coming back to murderize Lesnar at ss and then have a really fun power bash at WM was a ton of fun.
Then they kept bringing him back and less said the better, but that 4 month period was great.

Brock vs Shane would've been good if it was a No DQ match and Brock was willing to do the Stunts (unlike in the Ambrose match)
But overall I was happy with Goldberg/Brock in 2016. Goldbergs return was done well... Then he started outstaying his welcome, burying new stars and won't go away.
