Chris Benoit vs Mike Enos
Is this the most random PPV opener ever?

Chris Benoit vs Mike Enos Is this the most random PPV opener ever? The same card had Fit Finley vs Van Hammer. Two random matches that like you could had on any TV show not PPV.

I am honestly more just surprised they didn't retire the name after the the 1997 one shit the bed as hard as it did.
Also, christ, I just realized out of 9 matches, only one is for any of the titles. I get having Goldberg vs Scott Hall in the stun gun match main event, that at least made a certain level of sense, but they couldn't scrape together a tag title match or something?

Pretty sure the tag titles were vacant. This was right before the infamous double elimination tag title tournament.

Still, no US title, no TV title, feels a bit weird, but at least the tag titles and world title not being defended makes sense, then. (The world title being in its ridiculous quagmire that it'd be in post-Goldberg loss.)

If I recall correctly, it was a randomly more-loaded-than-usual edition of WCW Saturday Night right before the PPV as well.

I loved random WCW matches but really only when it was an equal pairing. Benoit v. Mike Enos, for the time, would be pretty uneven. I can't believe Mike was around that long. He was like a total Saturday Night or Disney taping guy.

There was a lot of random matchups on PPV at that time period from both companies.

Despite having a super stacked roster, WCW PPV undercards regularly had low-profile thrown together matches that wouldn't look out of place on Saturday Night/Worldwide. A month earlier at Starrcade they had Brian Adams and Scott Norton v Jerry Flynn and Fit Finlay, Norman Smiley v Prince Iaukea and Perry Saturn v Ernest Miller. They were consecutive matches too so this took up over half an hour straight on the biggest PPV of the year. There was a lot of random matchups on PPV at that time period from both companies. See: Marc Mero v Droz at Breakdown.

It was kinda normal back then to just pair people up for no reason. The difference is that WWF tried to hype it with some promos while WCW seemed to just decide on the day of the PPV that Alex Wright vs. Paul Roma was ideal Match #2 material.
