Fightful: Why Vince broke up and reunited New Day

In an update, a new report from Fightful Select notes that McMahon was adamant that Kingston and Big E were not billed as “The New Day,” and instead just be called “Big E and Kofi Kingston,” which is how they were announced for Big E’s first week back on SmackDown.

There was apparently some miscommunication internally over Vince’s edict on Kofi and Big E because on YouTube and internal lists they were listed as The New Day. However, the following week that had changed. WWE is now billing them by their names, without the group name.

Furthermore, it was noted that Vince was also adamant at one point about putting The New Day back together as a trio because he “missed the magic that they created together.” However, Vince also preferred that the group split up in the last two WWE Drafts, with the idea that a top babyface like Big E should be on their own in most situations. There were numerous Draft pitches made to keep The New Day together despite Vince’s idea, but it didn’t do much good.

So, according to this report, Vince McMahon wants The New Day back together, but doesn’t want The New Day back together. But he also wants The New Day together, but don’t call them The New Day because they’re not back together, because Vince doesn’t want them back together even though he does.

This just feels like one of those “none of this is news but you can use it to blame Vince however you’d like” stories that pops up every so often.

If there’s any truth to it, on one hand it’s good that Vince still see’s Big E as a big singles act. On the other hand, the whole name-association-branding bs is just silly by now.

I'm guessing the name will be downplayed as long as Xavier Woods is absent, then will return when all three of them are together.

Guessing there was similar logic behind that time they did a Shield reunion on Raw except went out of their way not to call them the Shield and stressed on commentary that it was not a Shield reunion.

Woods has been cleared to return, so that should be imminent.

This really just explains why top WWE Babyfaces all suck and continue to suck

Big E flatlined as champion and has cratered even more so since he lost the belt. He went from world champion to losing a tag match to Los Lotharios in a month... you wonder why morale's at an all time low?

My guess is that in his head the face should be alone because it's easier to write. If the heel has cronies then they can just stomp all over the face and now the face has odds to overcome. If the face has friends to even the odds, then suddenly they have to put more than a bare minimum effort into writing the conflict.

YEah, but... like none of this entirely out of the realm of possibility since Vince changes his mind like every 5 minutes from like every report about why the WWE is booked the way it is.

YEah, but... like none of this entirely out of the realm of possibility since Vince changes his mind like every 5 minutes from like every report about why the WWE is booked the way it is.

Yeah, honestly all you need to do is look at the show and ask yourself if it doesn't come off like it was put together by exactly the kind of person being described in this news story. Like even putting aside the weird naming stuff and website thing and how they were announced coming out, that's just how the show comes off week to week. Disjointed indecision is the creative process at play in WWE.

Especially as... like... that's a relatively new thing.

Hogan had tons of friends... Austin was mostly a loner but he had like JR as his buddy that if anyone messed with he'd kick their ass...

We want to make it clear to our audience that Big E is not part of the New Day. And we're going to do that by putting them on the same show together, have them team together, & come out to the New Day theme together. But we're not going to call them 'the New Day' on TV, just on social media.

So we're being clear.

They're popular, they move merch, they have social consciousness, but that doesn't matter AT ALL if Vince or whoever says otherwise. Basically, New Day is in no better position to make demands then the rest of the roster.
