I did not have access to any WCW programming until late 95 so safe to say I really wasn’t up on the whole NWA becoming WCW, or rather JCP becoming WCW until years after the fact.
I’m trying to pinpoint exactly when did they stop using the NWA label and become strictly WCW for all programming?

I'd say it was November or December 1990.

Unofficially, November 1988.
Officially, January 1991.

December 1990 was when the "NWA Main Event" program had its name changed to "WCW Main Event." Earlier in 1990, the wrestlers and announcers started using the term "WCW" more and more while still using "NWA," but towards the end, it was just "WCW."

Strangely, the Worldwide Wrestling logo kept the nwa letters on the logo, but it probably slipped their view and eventually they went to the globe logo.

Yeah when they took the NWA branding out of the TV show names, I considered the change "official". I was just watching some 1991 Worldwides not too long ago and noticed the above! I think the wrestlers' chyron still had the bar with the stylized "NWA" from the JCP era too. Pro's intro kept the wrestler portraits ca. 1989 too. What's funny is the Apter mags took another six months to finally accept the new name, and they called the company "NWA" until they got to May of '91. (interestingly enough, pre-1987, Apter still recognized the difference between NWA and JCP by putting wrestlers in all the member territories in the NWA Top 10, while having a separate listing for Crockett called the "World Championship" area of all things. (the US champion was recognized as the top champ there)

Also, by 1993, the NWA pulled their World Title from the promotion, which led to the WCW International Heavyweight Title.

This always confused me as a kid and even just recently as an adult. I think it took someone on kayfabe memories scolding another board member because they referred to 1980s JCP as NWA. I never knew it wasn't anything but "NWA" as a kid, young adult. I didn't think it was really called Jim Crockett Promotions. Plus they had the ring skirts with NWA on it the Galoob 1990 toys first run had an NWA logo on the cards and switched to WCW not long after.

We didn't know any different because they promoted themselves as the NWA. Jim Crockett Promotions was something you might see in the credits, or as a "by the way" mention as to who was promoting the event, but to virtually every wrestling fan in America it was just the NWA. That's even kinda what JCP was going for, for the NWA to be synonymous with JCP.

Reminds me of, I don't know, someone who HAS to remind you that Voltron used to be Golion or something that can be taken to obnoxious levels. JCP was the most visible "face" of the NWA throughout the 80s. I admit I really didn't know about what the NWA really was until joining the IWC and reading more books.

The board is pretty much filled with guys 20-30 years older than most of us on here and they take the old school too seriously. One guy went on a rant about Dynamite Kid being a murderer and when he was called out on it he simply said it was a mistake because he didn't follow the newer wrestlers of the 90s-2000s and he somehow mistook Dynamite for Benoit based on all the bad things Dynamite had actually done. You're right though, JCP was always pushing itself as the one and only NWA. I never knew it as anything but NWA until that guy posted a few years ago. I personally liked thinking they were NWA. Jim Crockett Promotions seems egotistical. Like you don't see "George Zimmer's Men's Warehouse" or "Jerry Jones Cowboys." If WWF were called Vince McMahon Promotions the magazine writers and the old school non WWF fans would be blasting him all the time.

Yeah it's because Jim Crockett Promotions goes way back to like 100 years ago and originally they did a lot of stuff like concerts, sporting events, and wrestling, but they always promoted wrestling events as "Championship Wrestling" or some derivative. So for some old fogey to point out that they were "JCP not the NWA!!!" is kind of pedantic because they were the NWA, at least a part of the NWA, and an ever-growing part of the NWA to the point where when wrestling fans talked about the NWA they were usually referring to JCP.

I remember being scolded by a guy on another board for calling the St. Louis territory "NWA St. Louis" once while asking a question sbout the promotion. "There is no promotion called NWA St. Louis" he would say and so on. I told the guy he knew what I meant and to stop acting that way. That led me to being warned about my "attitude" since he was friends with the mod. Unreal how people are.
