I hope we can keep this to board rules.
So in 2009 Vince came out and announced he was selling Raw to Trump. First consequence of this was WWE sending out a press release that made it sound legit, caused a stock dip, and got them investigated.
The first week of Trump Raw was no commercials. And Trump announced that all Raws from then on would be no commercials with guest hosts. This caused Vince to freak out and but Raw back for twice the price. Vince did keep the guest host idea though.
So did they cut the story short because of the stock snafu? But in kayfabe why would Vince care what Trump did with Raw once he sold it to him? All very confusing and ill thought.

Since Trump has basically bankrupted every business he's touched, and the share holders wanted nothing to do with him, and the WWE kinda treated it like it was real.

I mean... it was a stupid storyline to begin with, BUT... they could've done it in a way that made sense.
Have it that Trump bought the controlling stock in the Raw brand and television product, but make it clear that this is a storyline. They had no problem breaking kayfabe in press releases about potentially controversial characters or gimmicks in the past and future, so it baffles me that they had to kayfabe this and Vince's "death" two years earlier.
From there, have Trump install a weekly guest host to run the show each week, occasionally he shows up in person to run things as the host. Start building up a resentment from certain wrestlers (I'm thinking Jericho or Orton would be perfect for this) and have it lead to a match at Survivor Series, Team Trump vs. Team McMahon, Winner Owns Raw. And have Team McMahon win due to shenanigans, because you can't have Donald Trump run Raw forever. It would get old and become meaningless (insert joke about current-day WWE here). But from June until November? Sure, that works.

I know Austin stunned Trump after the WM hair vs hair match but, did Vince ever get one up on Trump? All the things I remember felt like it was Vince the one getting embarrassed

I still can't believe the stock fell as a result of the storyline.

All the things I remember felt like it was Vince the one getting embarrassed I recently read JR's second book and when he talks about the BOTB, he mentions that he heard Trump say to Vince that he didn't want to be embarrassed and Vince assured him he wouldn't look bad.
So I imagine it was just Vince playing it safe to placate Trump's ego.

I guess it makes sense, since Trump as always seen his name as a brand upon itself

That tracks for ending the story real life. Kayfabe wise why would Vince care if Trump bankrupted Raw? Vince got his money f Raw. If Trump drove it into the ground then Vince could buy it back for a song. Or is it just they needed to end the story quick and this was the best their "creative" team could do. Probably.

I still can't believe the stock fell as a result of the storyline. 99% sure people just saw headlines in passing - it was a minor news item - and assumed it was real and the successful WWE supremo had sold his company to the perennially bankrupt Home Alone 2 f***wit and pressed the panic button

Trump was born to be a wrestling promoter, he's insane, no good at anything but self promotion and frequently stiffs anyone dumb enough to work for/with him.

I mean, you could strip the names and identifying context from McMahon or Trump stories and make a game guessing which one did what. They’re extremely similar personalities, and that’s in no way meant to be a compliment to either.

I still can't believe the stock fell as a result of the storyline. Given Trump's track record with businesses, it wasn't that surprising.

We won't get into the how or whys. I have a co-worker who loves gambling on hockey and football. He loses all the time. I was finally able to get through to him he hasn't won if he doesn't recover the cost of the bet but I made him another proposal. Rather than bet on the games, he just gives me $20 every day. We work together everyday, so it's easy enough. He gives me $20 and the next day, maybe I give him nothing. Maybe I give him $20 back. Maybe I give him $200. Wouldn't that be exciting? He'd never know what would happen. He thought that was the dumbest idea he'd ever heard and missed the point of my proposal. Everyone I ever tell that story to understands though.

It'd be funny if people believed the story was real if not for WWE having tried to convince people it was by treating it in real life like a real move. That was a boneheaded move that was always going to end poorly. I wonder if for some people it was even just a matter of "this is dumb and I don't want my money in a company pulling this clown shit and spooking investors"

I find it hilarious that stocks plummeted due to the announcement since Trump was still seen as a joke in the business world even back then.
