Yeah, no snark here, pretty much getting your whole audience for the switch to SyFy is pretty good considering.

Of course they got the whole audience, only the hardcore diehards are left.

Shows that ratings can just be weird. Nothing really would've made you think it would do that good a number based on what was advertised unless people were really into the idea of a Broga Party (and if so, well sucks for them given what happened).

The Olympics are seemingly having no effect on wrestling. Although the winter games probably aren't expected to have the same impact as the summer ones.
I wonder how long it's been since Syfy had something of their own at number one for the night. Maybe a Sharknado premiere back when those movies were pretty big?

Yeah, also it didn't help some of the bad publicity before the games, some of the stuff I can't really talk about here, likely didn't help much. And I think you're right, actually. The Sharknado movies did big for them when they were coming out. Of course they got the whole audience, only the hardcore diehards are left. Sure, but also Smackdown loses a big chunk of its audience when it moves to FS1 on the regular so that stuff isn't necessarily guaranteed. That's less about loyalty then FS1 being inaccessible to most people but still.

Also noteworthy that Hour 2 (women’s gauntlet match) was the highest hour of the three.

Also noteworthy that Hour 2 (women’s gauntlet match) was the highest hour of the three. It's still a little surreal after how things were for pretty much the entire history of the company but for a few years now we've been living in a timeline where the women in the company are arguably equal or greater than the guys in terms of interest/star-power. 3 of the top 5 matches at EC are women's matches. There were as many women's matches as men's matches at RR. In 2019 Becky was the biggest ratings draw in the company and was doing better quarter hour numbers than Roman or anyone else and in 2020 during the worst days of the pandemic Sasha and Bayley were regularly doing the best numbers on Smackdown. I saw a poster a few days ago too for the upcoming MSG show and it featured four women (Becky, Charlotte, Ronda, Sasha) and only two guys (Roman, Brock). Like if I wanted to use specific people to sell a show it's pretty slim pickings for full-time guys after Roman right now. You have a big drop-off to Rollins then another drop to the next level (Drew? Lashley? AJ?). With the women though you have a main event scene of Ronda, Becky, Sasha, Charlotte, Bianca, Alexa, Asuka, Bayley with Rhea hopefully not far off fully cementing herself on that level too.

Also, NXT has little excuse tonight if it does a similar number to last week. It's a much better card and the WWE fans found SyFy this week. They know how to watch it.

There’s arguably more women being presented as “top stars” than guys at the moment. Becky, Charlotte, Ronda, and I think arguably Bianca is close. Whereas with the guys it’s Brock, Roman, and maybe Bobby.

Even last week's Smackdown with its 20-minute Charlotte/Naomi main-event had the show's best rating in three weeks and the second hour rated higher than the first.

WWE/AEW and other live athletic events might actually benefit from the fact that all scripted series are throwing in the towel with reruns this week, and those shows might have a bigger possible crossover audience then the Winter Olympics.

The stuff in the past couple years is honestly more impressive to me than the 2015-16 main roster "Divas Revolution" stuff simply because it's not as forced. You shouldn't have to make a big deal out of women main eventing and thankfully now it happens regularly and no one blinks an eye. Back in like 2015 WWE though (or current AEW) it would be like "wow the women are main eventing Raw/Dynamite, this is a big deal." The true progress is when it doesn't feel like a big deal anymore because it's completely normal and can happen at any time without being shocking.

Right, it's been normalised now, in part due to those earlier main events. Back then it wasn't so they had to place more emphasis on it.

Surprised the Gauntlet was the highest hour, usually those don't do great ratings wise, but I figured the audience would adjust after a week

Just some recent examples off the top of my head are Seth in 2018, Kofi/New Day during KofiMania, Heavy Machinery on SD, and probably Rhea after last night. They also gave Shotzi a really good showing in one on NXT a couple years ago, but unfortunately it was in an empty arena IIRC.

Don't lie guys, the gauntlet was highly rated because Rhea's boobs almost popped out 15 times.
