Personally, I do not care.
Punk lost in Chicago, big deal. Long Island was morons for cheering MJF, PnP will likely come nowhere near the tag titles except in Brooklyn.
As long as the match and feud are compelling, who cares who the crowd is?
But that is me.
PS Please, let us ignore the upcoming Texas elephant in the room.

I'd rather the hero win than lose just for the heat.
If the crowd are going to react to someone in particular because it's their hometown, why not use that pop to get a fun match?

I think the trope for so long was that you get your ass whooped in your hometown while AEW seems to want to give big moments in the hometown.
Is it a big deal to me? Not really. I think for certain moments it makes for cool spots (Britt in Pittsburgh for Rampage debut being prime example)

It's been a wrestling trope forever. Does it really matter for a nationwide television audience? Not really. But it's fun for the hometown crowd to see the local guy/girl win one (or get obvious heat if they lose).

Yes, I think it's important. Centuries of sports leagues are based on the home town "heroes" winning their respective matches. The Olympics for centuries have been doing it. I think it's great for hometown heroes to win in front of their "hometown" crowd. It's a great story, and sends people from those towns happy. If they lose, than it should make sense in their story. Like Punk losing, or a babyface losing to a Ric Flair, but still looking amazing.
