I received word earlier today that a past friend of mine died last night in the hospital after a car accident. He wasn't exactly a close friend, but the dude was a great guy, a very kind person. This never happened to me before: A guy I knew, very young, about my age gone, just like that. It gets me thinking, as we grow older, more people my age that I know may not always be around. It's a very weird feeling. I didn't feel sad, or angry or any of that. It's this weird feeling, a feeling like emptiness.
I didn't write this for attention or pity. I wrote it for that thought. I mean I see family members die from old age or illness, but never friends or aquiantances dying at such a young age like that. It makes me sick just thinking about it.
Champ, was what we called him, a shortened version of his real name. RIP Champ.

This happened to me many months ago. A girl I knew from grade school had died. We had actually been in the same class from Kindergarten to 8th grade. She was always sickly but I never thought she'd die. My friend actually told me on AIM that she died and didn't see me so couldn't tell me about the funeral.
The strangest thing was that a few nights later I dreamed me, the girl and all my classmates were running down a hill. I said we'll have my birthday at Sizzler. We reached a long metal fence and I went over it. When I looked, the girl was on the other side shaking her head.

I in tune have encountered the same situation...Realizing its not a close friend as of now creates boundaries but realize the past comes in wakening even the simple times mean the most...

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. I understand how that feels, but I didn't find out about my friend until 2 years after it happened, as the last time i talked to him was about 6 months before he was killed in a car accident.

About three years ago, a friend of mine got drunk at a party and started walking home. According to the police report(s) and subsequent newspaper articles, he "fell asleep" on some railroad tracks only a few blocks away from his house. He never heard the train coming. We weren't super close, but I held him in very high esteem, despite his "personal demons." Josh was one of the friendliest, most caring, most giving people you'd ever meet. He struggled on life support for two weeks before he finally just stopped breathing. And just like that, I lost a friend, his two-year-old son lost his daddy, and this whole town lost one hell of a guy. I didn't mean to come in here to try to "one-up" anyone, so I apologize if it comes across that way. My intent was to say that I know what you're going through, and if you need any kind words or any advice on how to make it through - or hell, if you just want to vent or rant or whatever - drop me a line. I believe the best way to get through rough times is with someone who has been there before. Losing a friend - no matter how close - always sucks; my heart goes out to you, man. R.I.P., "Champ."

Yeah, I know a lot of people who are dying these days. It's pretty weird, 'cos for a long time, I never knew anyone who died. Now it seems like they're dropping like flies. The latest one was a dude I played hockey with, f***ed himself up on drugs real good. Was trying to get clean and he got the idea it would be a good idea to drink Drain-O. It cleans the drain, so he figured it would clean him up too. He's dead now....

I know how you feel. Its so weird when it happens because, we're young, we're so full of life and we haven't even started yet (at least me, i'm only 20).
The first person from my hs graduating class (2004) to die went Ohio (i'm from eastern pa) to see a girl, got out there, her dad kicked him out immediately for no reason, and he drove all the way back, fell asleep at the wheel about 2 miles from his house, and nailed a tree. He was in a coma for 4 months before his parents pulled the plug. Its just scary. He was 19.
The second was a good friend of mine, had lotsa classes with him, spent a halloween with him (we dressed as women and theres pics of us somewhere), and he had just left his house to go somewhere, and he was driving wayyyyyyyyy too fast. How fast? Let me put it this way.... he was wearing his seatbelt but was still ejected the hell outta the car. I mean he was so full of life, so young, he was a genius, but he's gone now.
The third and thankfully final guy that died was 20, back in late july last year, and he was a passenger in the car. His driver was going way too fast around a curve, speed limit is 55 mind you, and he lost control and hit a HUGE boulder, killing 2 passengers but NOT the driver. I do not know the driver, but I hope to god that he gets what he's got coming to him someday and I hope he lives with his bad decision for the rest of his life. Because of him, 2 innocent lives were taken yet he gets spared somehow. I hate how life works sometimes.
What's even weirder, to me, is they were all cremated, and that, to me, REALLY means that they ARE NOT here. I mean, if their bodies were buried thats one thing, theres a goodbye and all, visitation, viewing. But cremation means their remains are 100% gone, never to have their physical presence brought upon us again.
I've gone and depressed myself now. Oh Fishsticks.
