What do you think of it?
For me, it's so-bad-it's-good. Reminds me of Johnny Polo's promos and color commentary.

I think if he wasn't playing his in ring character on commentary it would have been better. His "51 or 61" commentary for Jake throughout the night got old quick. He was good but he wasn't put in the position because he was needed. He was put in the position because Perfect was being used and King was being used and JR and Vince together would probably be pretty bad. If he could play real life Owen rather than bad guy character Owen it would probably be more memorable but he was in character.

Never thought it was that bad. He was better than Dok Hendrix the previous year and infinitely better than the other Guest commentator at an earlier KOTR!

It’s been a while since I watched it. But as I recall, I actually liked Owen’s commentary for what it was, and thought that he might have had a career in the booth after he was done in-ring, if he’d wanted it & if later, sadder events hadn’t happened.

What do you think of it? For me, it's so-bad-it's-good. Reminds me of Johnny Polo's promos and color commentary. He didn't sound anything like Polo other than they were both heel commentators. Owen was angry and bitter, with a few jokes thrown in. Polo was a jokey guy making pop culture and insider references. Completely different dynamics.

I watched this show a few months ago for the first time in a long time and forgot Owen did commentary. I thought he was hilarious and made the show.

Let's adjust expectations here a bit. For a first time ever doing event-long color commentary, he's very, very good.

Loved it. My sister and I (who was a fan then) still quote it to this day. The way he completely seriously says of Jake "...but at 80 years old or 90 years old or whatever he is, he doesn't have a chance"

Just a similar level of "so bad, it's entertaining".

I didn't think either one was bad, though I will say that Polo was probably better suited to throwaway Coliseum Video matches than big-time PPVs.

Gorilla Monsoon and Johnny Polo on some of those mid-90s Coliseum Videos have a fun dynamic. As you said, probably wouldn't have worked for Wrestlemania, but fine for some random matches on a home video release. Now Stan Lane and Ted Dibiase on the other hand...yikes.

During one of the matches that Stan/Ted commented on the Inside The Wwf release, this was what happened: Ted: “You can be replaced Stan.” (Stan sighs loudly.) I’m surprised that Vince didn’t make them redo the commentary after that. A person sighing? The Gorilla/Raven combo was great. It kinda reminded me of Gorilla/Bobby. (FAN’s response: “Will you stop? I’ll have you thrown out of here.”)
