Kenta Kobashi got over as a massive face by losing his first 63 matches, and then he became THE babyface in AJPW (and top 3 all time, get at me) after losing a nuclear war against Dr. Death

Santino Marella losing the InterContinental Championship. This would lead to a Heel turn and his career really taking off.

When Mike Enos lost to Glacier on Thunder, all we talked about for the next 6 months was Mike Enos. Shame what happened.

Kofimania would have never happened without that gauntlet match when he lasted an hour before losing in the end. Umaga losing that last man standing match to Cena. Before that he was winning a lot but not really over. After the performance he put on in that match though he got a lot more respect and ended up in the highest profile match at Wrestlemania 23. Rey Mysterio lost to Dean Malenko in his WCW debut at the Great American Bash but was so impressive that it was obvious he was going to be the big cruiserweight star going forward. Cena's debut against Angle could be mentioned but he really didn't do much in the following months. His loss to Angle at No Mercy 2003 arguably meant more long-term. It may have been the match when they decided it was time to turn him face because the crowd was cheering heel Cena over face Angle and then by the next PPV they had officially turned Cena. The ladder match with Undertaker didn't really do anything for Hardy at the time. It should have done but Hardy's body was too broken down and his drug problem was out of control so he was gone from the company 8-9 months later and didn't do a lot in that time. The following month he wasn't even on the Summerslam 2002 card. He didn't have a spot at Wrestlemania 19 either. My overall memory of Jeff around this whole time period was the ladder match against Undertaker, the tables match at Survivor Series and then losing to Jericho at No Way Out 2003, with commentators pointing out that Hardy was basically directionless.

As odd as it may sound, I'm going to say Razor's loss to Kid.
It wasn't long after Razor was embarrassed in defeat that he went from a featured heel that could never win a big match, to a face becoming the Intercontinental champion and having an iconic run.

They also kinda turned him heel for a week or two in early 2003 during a mini-feud with Shawn Michaels but quickly forgot about it.

That's probably fair. Without the actual violent Scarface elements of his gimmick, the fans were gonna turn him face anyway and even as far back as 93, the fans knew what was up.
