What are some loses that ended up being the launching pad for a wrestler? Austin vs Bret I Quit match, Shawn vs Razor ladder match, and Jeff Hardy vs Undertaker ladder match come to mind.

Bryan 18 seconds, weird to say about a world champion but it was that that accelerated his rise to the very top.
Becky Lynch a few times. Crowd singing her theme after losing to Sasha and if iirc a loss to Charlotte led to her becoming the man.

Bret Hart losing to Bulldog at Wembley placed Hart at the top of the card for the rest of his WWF career.

KENTA was already pretty big, but man, his 2006 loss to Kobashi took him to another level.

Kofimania would have never happened without that gauntlet match when he lasted an hour before losing in the end.
Umaga losing that last man standing match to Cena. Before that he was winning a lot but not really over. After the performance he put on in that match though he got a lot more respect and ended up in the highest profile match at Wrestlemania 23.
Rey Mysterio lost to Dean Malenko in his WCW debut at the Great American Bash but was so impressive that it was obvious he was going to be the big cruiserweight star going forward.
Cena's debut against Angle could be mentioned but he really didn't do much in the following months. His loss to Angle at No Mercy 2003 arguably meant more long-term. It may have been the match when they decided it was time to turn him face because the crowd was cheering heel Cena over face Angle and then by the next PPV they had officially turned Cena.
The ladder match with Undertaker didn't really do anything for Hardy at the time. It should have done but Hardy's body was too broken down and his drug problem was out of control so he was gone from the company 8-9 months later and didn't do a lot in that time. The following month he wasn't even on the Summerslam 2002 card. He didn't have a spot at Wrestlemania 19 either.

Not really a loss, but that match at Clash with Flair helped Sting's career.

Ring of Honor had a ton of these, from Samoa Joe (vs. Low Ki) to Davey Richards (vs. Tyler Black) to Michael Elgin (vs. Davey Richards)

Edge and Christian in the TIT Ladder Match. I mean, who won didn’t matter a lick in the end. All 4 guys entered the match as guys on the roster and became superstars with that match.

The same could be said for the Triangle Ladder Match and the first two TLC matches. In that regard, you have to give it to the Dudleyz, who lost all three of those matches and the Rumble 2000 Tag Team Tables match with the Hardyz, but still got ridiculously over despite not getting a tag title victory over either TLC team in the year 2000.

Shawn Michaels losing the WM 10 ladder match to Razor I felt helped his career Took a bit though. I had started watching shortly after Mania 10, and at the time Diesel was IC Champion, so when Shawn wasn't doing anything at first I thought he was just Diesel's manager. Then again, that was just the viewpoint of a 12 year old just starting to watch the product.

It's fresh in our minds, of course, and I would say Razor versus Kid. Razor was talented but him losing to Kid on Raw really helped him in June 1993. I'm guessing WWF saw him as a potential face or he was being cheered and he needed a match like that with a storyline (Dibiase) to really boost him as a good guy. After that he was a legit star in WWF and of course WCW. ]I had started watching shortly after Mania 10, and at the time Diesel was IC Champion, so when Shawn wasn't doing anything at first I thought he was just Diesel's manager. The correct description would be "Second" as per Art Donovan.

Jeff losing to Orton at Rumble 08
Foley at KOTR 98 became the hardcore legend.

Was gonna say that Cena really made Umaga and Khali feel like legit main eventers even in defeat. Choking Umaga out with the ring ropes to beat him looked sooooo brutal and should have made the dude a threat for years to come.
