You’d have to think that WWE will book Cody strong initially because while it won’t be a flood of talent going from AEW to WWE like it has been from WWE to AEW, they will want to not make it seem like they’ll get buried if they sign. I think that’s something a lot of people are forgetting. WWE have a real chance with Cody to basically say how much the grass is greener to AEW talent after years of basically showing they can’t do well with talent they get from other companies. If they screw it up, all they’ll have to say to talent is “We can pay you more” which might work for Cody and some others but won’t work for everyone coming from the environment AEW seems to be like. This.
Cody's build is basically going to be the new "AJ Styles push" when it comes to an AEW wrestler jumping to WWE. By that I mean AJ's push is the template a lot of wrestlers use as to how high they can go and what they want out of the company. AJ did well there? Ok, now they wanna see what happens with them. It's the same thing as the Shield's debut and push as they were the template for their class and so on and so forth. With Cody, how he does here is going to be the limiter. If they do Cody well then that sends a message to those in AEW that hey, it's possible and it's not out of reach because Cody's probably going to be as high as most can go. It's a brochure.
They're going to do as best as they can to make sure he's pushed as great as possible because it's basically free advertisement and it's also what Vince wants. Vince wanted to push Cody to that main event level in 2011-2012 but he didn't because he was missing a few things. A decade later he's got what he's missed and he's better all around so he's set.

I really think the crowd won't care THAT much after mania. Which brings up an interesting case, and maybe a clearer picture that the smark/internet fan and the casual fan both in fact exist and have separate tastes. I actually think if that's true, it might be for the opposite reasons. Cody has proven himself to be one of the most popular wrestlers in the world over the past five or so years. I don't think he'll have any problem getting over with so called casual fans. But he's burnt a lot of bridges with the more hardcore fans, and have more than a few people who will see him as having sold out and gotten back in bed with the enemy.

You know, I truly didn't know hardcore WWE fans were as insane as they were until I scrolled through comments here and there about this. My favorite brand of comments are the ones that say that "You shouldn't say anything bad about Cody for wanting to feed his family" and "This is like Jericho going to WWE in 1999. This will kill AEW!" As if Cody's family were living in poverty prior to him signing with WWE and as if Cody is remotely as talented/important as Jericho was/is. I can think of one of his matches in AEW that was great, and that was with his infinitely more talented brother. AEW improves by losing Cody and Brandi. Pretending that this is MAJOR STEAL by WWE is laughable. I'm just happy that this means I won't have to worry about hearing one of his promos or watching one of his matches on a weekly basis. insane ? I’m not sure where you got that impression. All I’ve seen is posters make good arguments as to how they believe Cody will be used when he debuts. You may not agree with them and that’s fair enough but to call those people insane is ridiculous. And since you mentioned AEW, some of their fans haven’t covered themselves in glory since it was absolutely confirmed Cody has resigned. And your second paragraph kind of shows how some AEW fans are reacting.

Your opinion of Cody is certainly one you're welcome to, but WWE luring away one of the four founders (and prominently featured character since its beginning) of AEW is 100% a major steal and pretending otherwise is silly. It's also ridiculous to compare Jericho in 1999 to Cody now; Cody is unquestionably the bigger star. AEW will survive fine, since their talent pool is if anything too deep and losing any one person won't really hurt them badly (although they don't as yet have anyone else really doing crossover stuff to the level that Cody was).

It's hard to say whether signing Rhodes from AEW in 2022 is bigger or not than signing Jericho from WCW in 1999. On one hand you have a co-founder of the company and top star making the jump, but in a time where wrestling is just one of many things in the fragmented media landscape of today. On the other, you have a midcarder making the jump, but in a time when wrestling was one of the hottest things on earth.

Vince - "Hey pal, welcome back, are you ready to play the moustache gimmick again? Hahahahaha!" I wish he WOULD bring back the moustache, especially if he goes heel. it looked terrible and he knew it and he kept it anyway because he knew it pissed people off.

Pretty much this. Getting an EVP from AEW is big, and I've said since Cody left some people forget how popular he was at the start of AEW. But man has been ice cold since the crowds returned to AEW to the point even going through a flaming table was quickly forgotten. Both Cody and AEW needed change and I think Cody in AEW was way too hesitant to adapt so the new atmosphere of WWE should be good for him.

Just gonna say what I’ve said before on stuff like this: Cody will probably be booked pretty well, but ultimately it won’t be that big a deal because WWE isn’t really capable of booking anything that happens to actually be a big deal once the “moment”(tm) has passed.
There’ll be some big reaction faces and people will share the video of Cody’s return, then it’s back to business as usual.

He'll be hot to start but how will he be doing when he's working a tag match two hours into a boring raw with Finn Balor against Ziggler and Roode? Like I'm sure it will be a good match but they'll have to do a lot of work to make sure he isn't just another guy.

See I don't know that booking will matter as much as the digits before .00 in the check. Yeah, Cody will get the good booking to put out there how great it is but they'll still have guys like Punk, Miro, the Huber family, and others to tell them what is like from their view. Plus I think guys like MJF or Adam Page will want to see how they treat an "AEW" original, will they get an AJ Styles welcome or be treated like Butch.

I get the point that the " my family" argument always falls flat for me in thes cases. You were already making enough bank for 4 full families.
Just admit you wanted more money instead of hiding behind the family argument.
Its not like he was a struggling common man ,working hard with his hands

You can be making millions of dollars but still not be “rich” in cash on hand depending how you spend. There’s also the reality that there’s no pension unless you’re making it yourself, and as a wrestler you sometimes have a limited timeframe to make as much as possible before you’re too old to do it.

I’ve only seen random fans make straw man comments like that. Mike Johnson of PWI who broke the news of his official signing just today said he thinks Cody isn’t even going to be making more in WWE than he would have in AEW when it’s all said and done and it’s not about money. Maybe he just wasn’t happy. There were reports of his wife being disliked by half the locker room. Maybe they didn’t want to be around that environment anymore. Maybe he was adamant about not turning heel (I don’t fully buy that one though because Vince isn’t going to give him creative control or promise to never turn him). Maybe he simply has goals and unfinished business that requires him being in WWE. If he wants to have a shot at winning a Royal Rumble, winning the WWE title, competing in a “war games” match, helping out in the developmental system his father helped start or have marquee Wrestlemania matches in front of 50,000+ people, he kind of has to be in WWE to at least have the chance of crossing some of those off his bucket list. This is the dude who could have had the pick of any non-WWE wrestler in the world to wrestle at All In but willingly worked with Nick Aldis because he wanted to win the NWA title. I have no trouble believing he has goals and titles in mind that aren’t about money and has the ego to believe that he’s capable of accomplishing them.

My prediction: beats Rollins at WM, wins MITB, relieves Reigns of the WWE title he won at WM (Reigns is taking at least half a dozen F5s before Cody cashes in!) and then loses it at SS main event to Rollins. High profile feuds with AJ and Orton, looks to be turning heel but doesn't pull the trigger yet, strong rumble performance (final 4, but not winner) and a high profile WM match set up (HHH retirement match? 2nd gen WCW stars feud with Bron Breaker? ect).
Probably enough for him to sign for another 2 years.

Its not like he was a struggling common man ,working hard with his hands 6-7 figures is a lot of money, but in the grand scheme of things it's not THAT much money. If I got a million bucks tomorrow and kept my life exactly as it is, I could probably make that last forever but if I wanted to upgrade some stuff and/or there was a significant life change, that money could go real fast. Someone earning at a high level for a few years doesn't mean they're set for life, especially if they have a family.

Yeah typically speaking the wrestlers who hear about being well off and not needing to work again are the guys who live at maybe upper middle class living standards at most. Guys like Punk can shrug off those lawsuits because they don't own like 3 houses and 10 cars. Ric Flair probably made more money in his career than Punk but he's a lucky he has a pot to piss in.
