Ok, this happened yesterday and I can't explain it.
Needed some cash as I planned to go into work on the bus today (still home working with an occasional office visit). So I thought I'll pop down to my local shop which has a cash machine (ATM to certain parts of the world), pull out twenty quid, but some bread and use the change for the bus (our backwards ass bus service doesn't accept contactless payments-bastards).
Anyway, went to the shop, walked up to the cash machine/ATM, pulled out my wallet, opened it and saw my cash card wasn't in the pocket.
f***!!!!!
Searched through it in case I hadn't put it back in the right place but, alas it was not in my wallet. Balls, I thought, I'm gonna have to cancel that right away as any f***er could pick it up and use the contactless to get stuff. And my phone was at home.
As I was walking away drastically trying to think the last time I used it, I was tapped on the shoulder by a hoodie holding my card and saying is this yours? I said yes where was it?
He said it was sticking out of the machine.
I'm like 'what?!? But ...I never....'
I literally don't know what the hell happened as I would swear I opened up my wallet and the first thing I saw was my card not there.
The only explanation without involving the supernatural or time travel is that I opened up my wallet, pulled out my card, stuck it in, looked back at my wallet and the last 3 seconds of my memory were wiped completely.
Should I be worried? I only turned 44 last Wednesday.

I wouldn't worry, mate. Sounds like you went on autopilot for a few seconds, like walking into a room and forgetting why you went in there.
This kind of thing used to happen to me constantly even before I became a stoner

Thanks. Although I do wonder if I've done something like that before and not realised it. I did think I could ask the staff who I'm fairly friendly with if they could look at the store CCTV but knowing my luck, the video would go black and a big pentagram would appear

I had a crazy day too.
I took this guy's bank card and stuck it in the machine without him noticing.

I had something similar happen to be years ago. Used my card at an ATM and then was certain that the card was still inside the ATM. If I recall correctly the machine was such that the card would completely go inside the machine. Went so far as to ask the person working there what I should do. Then I realized that I actually had my card on me. I had put it away and somehow forgot. i felt like an idiot.

I remember once being in line for the cash machine. The guy in front was in a hurry and ran off, leaving his cash in the machine. Ran down after the street to give it back to him and he still acted like I was trying to steal from him.

More than once recently I’ve left my cash in the machine after putting my card in my wallet thinking it was the cash. The first time the shop staff alerted me, the second time it remained out the machine before getting taken back in. It was at a busy train station too, so it’s quite miraculous that nobody took it.
I’m only three years older than the OP too; sorry bud, but this is what you’ve got to look forward to.
