May or may not be related, but he had drug problems back in the day, and they were in Columbia.... I hope it's not that, both for his family and for Grohl. In any case, RIP. Police reports suspect drugs and it was noted that he complained of "chest pains." nypost.com/2022/03/26/taylor-hawkins-death-may-be-tied-to-drugs-police/I know many don't like the NY post, but they are really the only place right now treating this like headline news. They're also the only ones reporting this. All the other actual reputable news sources are not. Oh, and the Daily Mail. Again, garbage. EDIT: NBC updated right after I posted. They found 10 substances in his system. God dammit...

There are some absolute ghouls who are trying to link it to the COVID vaccine, which is just f***ing disgusting, they never stop. I think anyone who was interested in rock music in the past 25 years or so will feel this one even if they weren't necessarily a fan, because the Foos were just so big. If it was drug related then I feel nothing but empathy, I know he had problems before and staying clean is always going to be a struggle, especially in the past couple of years. It's all just very sad. To be expected now. Been hearing the Q type stuff with some of the celebrity deaths this year. Not even Betty White was safe. I wonder if the same types consider this karma for the FF's policy about attendance at their concert? Probably...

I do expect it and I'm not surprised, but at the same time it still upsets me. It occurred to me recently just how blasé people are about celebrities and their health or wellbeing, it's almost as if people think they're characters in their lives rather than actual other humans. And I'm probably guilty of it as well sometimes, although I hope I've never taken it to that extent.

EDIT: NBC updated right after I posted. They found 10 substances in his system. God dammit... Just from the ones mentioned in the reports, aside from the weed it mostly looks like a cocktail of prescription meds. Antidepressants, muscle relaxers, painkillers... Drumming is particularly hard on the body, so a picture is definitely starting to form. We've seen a lot – too many – of similar deaths in wrestling.

Let's not get off on a vaccine discussion, yeah? Thanks.

I was hoping it wasn’t going to be an OD. It’s still so depressing for me to read about it.

F*** this sucks. I feel awful he had relapsed, I feel awful he’s gone, my thoughts, prayers, love are with his family, his friends and band mates, and the millions of people he impacted around the world. F***

Pat Smear and Nate Mandel joined before The Colour and the Shape while Dave did the drum parts there again. Taylor joined for the tour supporting Colour and the Shape and stayed with the band up until his passing.

I've seen it suggested that rather than it be a straightforward overdose it could have been that the combination of benzos and opioids was lethal and perhaps caused some sort of heart failure, especially if he had an existing heart problem.

Let's not leave out William Goldsmith, who is a fine drummer in his own right, but just couldn't quite match what Dave was looking for in the writing department.

Yeah, I did short change William Goldsmith. Pretty sure he recorded most, if not all, of the original second album before him and Dave had creative issues and went their separate ways and Dave replaced most of his stuff. Not a slight on Goldsmith, just sometimes things don’t mesh like you hope. Performing together and creating together are two entirely different beasts

Performing together and creating together are two entirely different beasts Yeah, he had recorded the entire thing, and Dave kinda went back and redid them one by one behind his back. I think bits of his drums wound up on the album,, and he played all of 2 songs. It's like the only story of Dave doing something f***ed up, and he even admits he went about everything the complete wrong way. Dave actually DID offer Goldsmith the opportunity to stay in the band (with the caveat that Dave would play drums on TCATS and most likely the bulk of the recorded material moving forward), but Goldsmith was too hurt to stay. He wanted to be a part of a band, not just a hired gun. I'm not sure he's ever forgiven Dave, he definitely still seemed angry in his interviews in "Back and Forth". Can't say I blame him, but at the same time, the Foos would have never become what they did with him in the band, so....

A lot of that sounds like the things someone with 30 years of drumming wear and tear would take to take the edge off, in probably worse and worse doses.

Well damn, I learn something new every day! Grohl apparently had his eye on Hawkins during that time but Taylor was drumming for Alanis Morrisette, who was the biggest thing in music at the time. Dave didn’t think he’d give up that gig for the Foos and was apparently shocked when Hawkins said he’d join up.
