Harris really botched it across the board. I remember Lance Storm being aghast that Chris showed up in basically the worst shape of his life. When someone suggested it was because he couldn't be on steroids, Lance said, "Were situps on the list of banned substances?!"

It was so disappointing to see what shape he was in. He had so much talent and potential. Even after drug testing guys usually debuted in great shape as they had more time and less travel in developmental. I have no clue what his excuse was. And why WWE even bothered to bring him up. He should have been released.

But he never should have debuted when he did. If he had been injured or something they should have held off until he could have gotten into shape. If he just sat around then he should have just been released. If he did just sit around then maybe WWE wanted everyone to see him before they fired him to ruin him forever.

I don't think they were that torn up about ECW prospects not panning out, and were kinda throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks, like with DJ Gabriel and some other types who I can't see them having tried on Raw or Smackdown during this time. Obviously, ones like Punk, they had plans for, but it definitely didn't break their hearts for Braden to crash and burn, I figure.

If I were in charge and I told Chris Harris to be in Baton Rouge Tuesday for his ECW debut, and he showed up looking like that? I would have told him go home, you are not taking this seriously. And sent him his papers the next day. Now to be fair to WWE they used his debut as part of the Alejandro story with him being forced to wrestle and having a losing streak. So you could have used Harris that first week as Alejandro losing to an out of shape nobody. But no reason to bring back Harris another week.

Like, I understand it to a degree, if you've been using roids as a shortcut and then stop taking them to piss clean and start ballooning up and losing muscle, that's symptomatic of the industry, so whatever. But I'm pretty sure at some point in the months between leaving TNA and showing up in WWE he could have looked in a mirror and thought 'hmm. Maybe I should be working out a little harder.' You're going to WWE. This isn't TNA. Wrestling will be your entire job. Dedicate some more time to working out. Maybe you won't be looking AMW 2006 prime, but you won't be looking just terrible

You can argue that WWE didn't do anything to really help Harris get over... but dude came into one of the biggest opportunities of his career in the worst shape of his career.
maybe if it looked like he cared they would have cared more for him?

Right, and even in TNA before he left, when TNA were letting him do some singles work, he seemed to be getting less and less motivated. If it was all on WWE, that would have not happened, nor would he have failed to refocus after WWE and try to get his career back on track. He never really did, unfortunately for him, and I'm not going to say he never had any talent or promise or otherwise diminish the guy. Just, clearly, praise got to his head, and maybe the humiliation did, too, when that imploded.

The only thing I'll give WWE stick for was putting him on TV after seeing him like that but then I don't know why they went forward with it and how plans could have changed (since we weren't into the "Vince changes the script every day for 6 days and then changes the script during the show" era of TV).

The worst thing apart from Harris becoming Braden Walker? That he didn't actually knock Estradas brains out. Instead of just going out there and beating the shit out of him, he just had a match. Which was a real letdown.

Lance is just hating Chris Harris for spending so much time with his son James, like the way Homer hates Milhouse so much.

Storm was always the star of AMW. Harris going to WWE by himself was like when WCW brought in Marty Jannetty.

When Storm was injured in early 2004 Harris got a short run at the main event level and did well. He was put back with Storm because they had their new TV deal so they defaulted all their titles (World -Jarrett, Tag-AMW, X-AJ). Its a mystery what happened with Harris. Its likely he was on performance enhancers but why he wouldnt do some situps as Lance Storm says makes no sense. Maybe he had some illness or injury. But I have never heard anything.

One of the first TNA matches I ever watched was an AMW match and it was obvious to me, even then. Chris had a better physique but James Storm stood out more, was a better wrestler and the one who did about 90% of the talking.
