Inspired by another post, which mentioned Kerry Von Erich.
On the one hand, I get angry at people who commit suicide, and see it as a selfish act by a person who didn't care about those around him/her and didn't try to get help.
On the other hand, and the hand I more frequently look at, it's extremely sad that a person could not help themselves and cut themselves off like that. A tragedy among tragedies.
Just curious as to your thoughts is all.

I still tend to side more with your first view, as nothing we do on this planet doesn't affect someone else in a way.

That if you didn't realise that life is a gift, then maybe you don't deserve it.
Extreme mental suffers excluded.

Some people just need a hug
Some people are being cowardly
It's different in different situations.
I feel bad for a guy who kills himself because he was made fun of for being fat and shot himself in front of his classmates who called him names.

Yeah...this thread is gonna have to walk a very fine line to avoid getting the ol lock and key put to it.
My opinion: It IS a selfish act, and one that devastates those the suicide leaves behind. But, and I do not say this lightly, unless you've been there, you really wouldn't understand.
Also, you may want to clarify if this is simple kill yourself suicide, or physician assisted suicide?

Don't do it.
That's my thought on suicide.

My thoughts are that is very sad and that a better understanding/acceptence of mental health issues in people would help decrease the amount of people that take their own lives because they don't feel they have a place to go.

It puts everyone involved in a tough situation and nobody is ever the same afterwards. What is sad about it, is that people do it as a way to get back at someone for something. I have heard so many stories of kids killing themselves because they were angry with their parents over something stupid.

Personally I don't like a term like cowardly when it comes to suicide. If people are in the mental mind set where they feel that they would rather die than live they seem to be in a mindset that would not allow them make a rational decesion

I don't condone it, but I can understand why some people do it. None of us will ever fully know unless, god forbid, our lives go straight into the pooper.

I do NOT support suicide, but after having a streak of suicidal tendencies that ended only 2 or 3 years ago, I've experienced the feeling of nowhere to go and stuff.
It is just, I could tell I had reserves on suicide, as I would do the most physically impossible ways of suicide(ie, like choking myself with a belt. On paper, it looked good, but during the attempt, I realized that I would pass out, and in passing out, would lose my grip on the belt, and thus not die).
Thankfully I don't have the tendencies anymore, and ya, suicide is like drugs, DON'T DO IT!

i've stopped friends from committing suicide a few times. and last year on christmas eve my dad tried to kill himself (luckily he was unsuccessful)
it depends on your reasoning. sometimes, yes i can see it as selfish. othertimes, not at all. you have to be in extreme mental/physical pain in order to consider ending your own life. you obviously (for the most part) aren't thinking clearly and may not consider the thoughts of the people around you because you're in so much pain and you see no other way out.
it's awful that it can get to that point. some people just cannot handle it.
and, btw, i'm totally for PAS
