Forget a real match with stupid run ins. Maybe if they protected Sting more and gave him his moments like Austin got, the match comes out better?
HHH's only job was to sell for the Stinger and put him over like Owens did for Austin? I feel a Sting/HHH no holds barred, would be better than what we got.
Or was there nothing that could save this match?

Honestly I do get why they did Triple H / Sting the way they did. Sting wasn't signed for more matches at the time, he'd been putting in largely terrible work toward the end of his TNA run, and Triple H was a couple years removed from really having any notable victories at that point. It's not great but I understand how they arrived where they did.
Except the handshake, that was just dumb.

I thought people liked the match itself, just hated HHH winning and the handshake after (which WAS f***ing dumb)

it should have followed the HHH getting his ass kicked blueprint with the run ins kept in IMO

The match was fine. Its just the finish/outcome that was garbage.

Putting on a good match or a good segment or making guys look their best to build to future money matches will never be a priority if doing so would imply that Ted Turner's cock isn't smaller than Vince's.

Sting wanted to put Hunter over, it was his idea, and I will never stop defending his decision, because it was his to make.

I feel a Sting/HHH no holds barred, would be better than what we got. Well..... it was a no disqualification match... so don't think that would've mattered either way.

The match would probably be remember better if it wasn't another "Member how much WCW suck compare to WWE and how DX kill it in one night with a tank" moment

Sting wanted to put Hunter over, it was his idea, and I will never stop defending his decision, because it was his to make. I can handle Sting’s decision. The handshake was still stupid AF. Sting came in to help put an end to the Authority, got beat by their Fearless Leader and then was like, “oh you….*shakes hand*” Triple H was a total piece of shit kayfabe wise and it should have ended with Sting dropping his ass post match turning on someone else for once. It’s as if Hogan would have beat him at Starrcade and he shook his hand afterwards looking like a chump. I know it was his decision though, but if I was Hunter I’d have been begging Sting to let him win at Mania. Considering Vince had a hard on for the Authority vs Rock/Ronda match that never happened he probably didn’t try too hard since they needed to look strong for that matchup…a year later…that still never happened. Sting ended up being that dude that failed at killing the nWo and the Authority.

I think he let his guard down. And even if he did it's idiotic. The last guy around that needed to be put over was HHH and if he wanted to eventually lose then fine but not YOUR FIRST MATCH!! That just sucked all the wind out of everything to do with his WWE run. You're not doing anyone any favors if you make yourself look like a chump on match 1 after the commentators are even going "was he ever that good??"

I just hated how Sting quite literally tried to say "This feud is not about WCW" and then Stephanie immediately came out and shrieked that it WAS about WCW, and how this was "WCW's last great stand", and then we had to have the NWO of all f***ing people come out and help Sting because "WCW"
Like The Handshake was f***ing stupid, but so was like... everything else about it too...

Agreed but even Scott Hall commented that Sting should have fought to have it contractually written in that he wins his only Wrestlemania match from a professional stand point.

Sting barely lost. He looked like a beast. It took all of DX to take him down. The issue was the stupid handshake.
