Did Brian Pillman ever reach his peak potential? Had conditions been conducive to him reaching his potential, what do you think his peak would have looked like?
I think Pillman vs. Bret and Pillman vs. HBK are two of the saddest missed opportunities.

I think Pillman vs. Bret and Pillman vs. HBK are two of the saddest missed opportunities. We'll honestly never know because his drug use was getting out of control towards the end of his ECW run and the car accident really killed off any prime he had. It didn't help he rushed himself back to the ring and looked like a husk of himself

I do not think he reached his potential, no. His character work and his actual wrestling peak were two different sections of his career, for one thing. Had he been able to kick his habits, and take the time to rehabilitate his body more, then his ceiling would have been even higher.

He could’ve been THE guy in ECW. That still remains my favorite debut promo ever. Unfortunately his car accident happened almost right after, and between the physical limitations of the actual injury and it exacerbating his drug issues, he never fully recovered.

Impossible to say, but it's fair to say his character work was maybe his peak anyway. I based that on every single wrestler having the same quote, "He was acting all crazy, but he let me know it was just a work. No one else in the world knew." I've heard Jericho, JR, and Bischoff all say some version of it and a few more I am not remembering.

He definitely didn't reach his potential. If he doesn't get in the accident, he maintains his physical abilities and matches it with his newfound incredible character work. Sure, he had his demons but the injuries accelerated it significantly. He could've been a huge antagonist for Austin in the late 90s if he was able to work at the level he was in the mid 90s.

I think he would've been a middle card hand, close to main event, in the Attitude Era. Probably IC champion.

Pillman was one of the legitimate innovators in the industry. So, yeah he probably got as far as he was going to get in either WCW or WWF.
Pillman was great, but can you imagine him managing to break into a main event scene that contained either Hogan, Savage and Goldberg OR Rock, Austin and Triple H?
I think he got about as successful as was possible for him
