King Kong Bundy was too big and strong they were worried that he would just run and bust through a traditional cage

That's a good one. Was there ever a real reason given why the change? I think the blue cage did debut with that Wrestlemania match so it seems like it would be a reason? I can't remember if Bundy climbed the blue cage but I doubt he could climb the traditional cage as well, if at all.
I personally loved the blue cage. I only really watched WWF until the early 90s so I was disapointed when I saw WCW using the regular silver cage.

As a kid, I always thought the mesh cash was far more dangerous, because I'd see the mesh cage and WarGames matches in WCW and then on the NWA/JCP and pre-1987 WWF Coliseum Video tapes and all these mesh cage matches had guys bleeding everywhere whereas it didn't happen as much in the blue cage matches. I thought the mesh cage must've been sharper or something.

Maybe not run but tear it down with his weight.

IDK. Why the design? Cause they can film it better. Put the cameras in the giant holes.

I prefer the look, but didn't the wrestlers hate it?

I prefer the look, but didn't the wrestlers hate it? I mean just think of how much a bar of steel has vs a fence

I do think that the big blue cage matches presented better on television. That may be confirmation bias because Bret/Owen was so awesome, but it always felt like the matches were easier to watch to me as a kid because the gaps were bigger than the standard chainlink cage.

Not to mention, the blue cage made it easier to climb. Interesting is that it was painted blue to match the color of the ring apron. In 1998, the ring apron was black yet they still used the blue cage for the Cactus/Terry vs Outlaws match…and not surpringly, the colors clashed. The blue cage was painted black after that.

Wasn't it changed because it was hell to bump off of? I agree it looked better on TV and for the live fans

How long did they continue to use the chain-link fence cage after the blue cage was introduced?

I always assumed that the real reason why they used the blue cage was because they couldn't do traditional cage matches for Hogan because he couldn't climb those cages.

The blue cage was much better for climbing escapes, but I always thought the idea of escaping a cage to win was kind of silly.
Thus, I prefer the mesh cage because it actually makes more sense to keep people from climbing.

I prefer the look, but didn't the wrestlers hate it? Yeah, they did. Those bars had give, unlike the mesh.

It is ironic that the mesh cage looks more dangerous than the blue bars but is actually safer.

It's a lot easier to get thrown into the mash safely than the bars, but the bars were a lot easier to climb. It's a matter of priorities, I guess.

I remember they randomly used the (black) bar cage for a UK show in 2001 just so they could have a spot where Edge pulled Christian's legs through the bars to win.

It was kept blue a little while after that, as the Triple Threat Cage match at Breakdown that September had the blue bars. It also had the big silver truss around it, helping to stabilise and lower/raise it. I'm a fan of the blue cage, it has more theatrics to it.
