The thread about Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti on the AEW board made me want to discuss this. As everyone can see, the thing with their relationship being used on TV is cringeworthy, especially with talking about their sex life and stuff. But then it made me think of seeing real-life couples being used on TV.
One of the most recent examples of real-life relationships being put on TV that didn't work was Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins. Neither Becky nor Seth wanted it put on TV, and there were a lot of things about it that didn't make sense. Now I don't mind the times when they were paired together as tag partners, but when their relationship was always mentioned, it made a lot of people cringe.
But then you had other examples like Rusev and Lana, when Lana was mainly the manager and cut promos for Rusev. Back in the 1990s, I remember DDP and Kimberly being together on TV, and Kimberly was just DDP's valet, at least before becoming one of the Nitro Girls.
When Miz and Maryse are on TV together, it really isn't all that bad. When they take part in storylines together, it works. Hell, at the start of this year, when Edge and Beth were on TV together, it worked, but at the same time, it was the first time they did a storyline together. I didn't mind the short-lived stable in AEW that had Adam Cole, the Young Bucks, Britt Baker, Kyle O'Reilly, and Bobby Fish, but that was scrapped after a few weeks. At least their relationship isn't mentioned a lot on TV.
I could go on. Feel free to talk about other examples. Which ones worked, and which ones didn't work?

It'd be very interesting to see a list of wrestling couples that fell apart after being in televised angles as well as a list of wrestling couples that had actual chemistry on-screen together. I feel like Miz/Maryse and Rusev/Lana are pretty much the only modern examples I can think of where they both had great chemistry together and the on-screen pairing hasn't damaged their relationship at all.

Jimmy Garvin and Precious, which apparently happened because Jimmy saw how much money Sunshine was making and thought his wife could do just as good a job and that would be extra income in their household.

Kayfabe couples slowly get together, everyone is on the journey together, people are invested. Real couples skipping that stage onscreen makes it hard to care.
It can work as a combo of 1. Heels 2. Established early and/or very slowly 3. Long-term relationship, we might not have seen it but at least we can accept it'll probably last. 4. One is the star, the other is a support act

Steph and Trips is a fascinating one. It started as a kayfebe couple only for the two to get together IRL, forcing WWE to retcon their 2002 “separation”

There’s also Adrian Street and Miss Linda. Adrian’s gimmick was basically that he was flamingly gay and also a bad ass, which he apparently is. Miss Linda has the rep of being tougher than most of the guys. I’ve always been fascinated by them.

Theatre, TV, movies, wrestling, there may be exceptions in all cases, but broadly speaking, working directly with your partner or dating someone you work with directly is a catastrophic mistake
You're nine months into a ten month angle where in the main event your onscreen squeeze and real-life girlfriend has to hit the other guy with a chair so you can win the title
Except you end up in a pointless argument that morning about making coffee or something and break up and oh well

I remember in 2004, Charlie Haas had Miss Jackie as his valet. I think those two were already together at that point.

Has there been a real couple that has had less on-screen chemistry than Vince and Linda McMahon?

Jerry Lawler coming to The Kay’s rescue against Right To Censor was funny since soon after she got fired, he quit in protest. Which blew up in Lawler’s face when she divorced him for one of The Dupps.

Which blew up in Lawler’s face when she divorced him for one of The Dupps. leading to his short-lived rebound “Kitten” in the XWF (who happened to look just like the Kat)

Lawler must have been ecstatic when WWE called him back after the InVasion.

Has there been a real couple that has had less on-screen chemistry than Vince and Linda McMahon? Linda wouldn't have chemistry with someone grown in a lab to riff specifically with her. It is nothing to do with chemistry, Linda gets out-acted by the chairs she sits in

I think Mike Bennett & Maria Kanellis would be another couple that fits here.
