He's been around for ages, but Mr. Ooh La La. Madd Maxxine (not the WWF jobber, but a woman who exclusively wrestled men in the PWF) Italian Stallion and George South were jobbers on the main stage, but I remember reading a lot of their exploits from PWF in the Apter Mags. They gave a lot of coverage to ECWA around the time of the first Super 8 tournament, and there was also a hostile takeover angle involving "The Master". Was this the WCW guy, Curtis Iaukea? Or a different worker? Other ECWA guys who got a lot of mentions (some became more famous than others): Lance (Simon) Diamond, Devon "Crowbar" Storm, Ace Darling, Cheetah Master, Reckless Youth, Mike Kruel, John Walters, Scoot Andrews, Billy Fives, Glenn Osbourne, Japanese Pool Boy, The Haas Brothers, JJ The Ring Crew Guy, Jeff Peterson (the nephew of company owner James Kettner, who was diagnosed with cancer, attempted a comeback, but sadly passed away), and Chance Beckett, are all names I remember reading about quite frequently. For a while, Mike Quackenbush had his own column in one of the magazines, when he was starting up Chikara. In general, I learned about Smokey Mountain, ECW and USWA from the Apter Mags, so I was a "smart" fan way ahead of my time lol I remember them giving Balls Mahoney (then known as Abudah Singh) a mention in a couple of issues, because he threw fire at Abdullah the Butcher in his debut match. I had to look up Japanese Pool Boy. I just had to. And oh my god.... I had forgotten all about Flash Flanagan! He made me remember Donovan Morgan and Michael Modest, who were all over those mags back around that same time. Rockin' Rebel popped up to job in both WCW and WWE a time or two. Closest he came to a run with even a well known indie was in the early 00s, when he was a part of Lobo's Army in CZW. He had his own group briefly after Lobo retired. And trust me you don't want to do research beyond that about Rockin' Rebel. I also had to look up Rockin' Rebel. And damn...

Exotic Adrian Street - Talked about in the magazines a lot yet I never saw him in one of the major feds
Lord Humongous - Hyped as a monster heel. Different wrestlers doing the gimmick. Always expected him to show up in NWA or as the next monster to feed to Hogan.

Always expected him to show up in NWA or as the next monster to feed to Hogan. Growing up watching Mid South/Memphis/Continental I saw both. But yea neither made it big outside the deep south. For me as a kid and younger teen it was all the ICW/ICCW talent. Would see them listed each month but no clue who Super Duper Mario or Curly Moe were. Same with Don Owens PNW,outside of Buddy Rose most of their roster was unknowns to me. Got in 9 issues of The Wrestler from 85 thru 91 the other day. Will go thru them see if I see any more guys I read about but never saw back then.

Adrian Street turned up a bit in Global, but yeah...other than that never in any of the big national companies.

I always remember thinking that Italian Stallion/George South feud must have gone on for years, same with Snuka/Metal Maniac, they talked about those feuds for what seemed like forever.
Reckless Youth I thought was a big enough deal to create-a-wrestler of him in both WWE Raw on PS1.
Another guy I always remember seeing in the rankings but never saw wrestle was called Bodyguard for Hire, I thought that was a cool name, but don't recall seeing a pic of him.
Obviously not obscure but I remember seeing the name Al Snow for years before ever seeing him pop up in WWF.

And not even in the "Waylon Mercy totally isn't DeNiro in Cape Fear" way, Lord Humongous is straight up The Blaster.

Adrian Street was far better known over here, like Giant Haystacks (who had his short, pre-terminal cancer run in WCW as Loch Ness).

Bodyguard For Hire is a Italian American dude from Brooklyn, NY and his the father of Mike Kruel, former OVW Champion. In his publicity photo he’s got a huge snake with him. Both father and son used to work out at Dolphin Gym in Bensonhurst.
