I seriously doubt a wrestling show with more WWE/AEW-like presentation would've performed any better on El Rey. Trying to launch a new cable network in 2013, when the format was already starting to be supplanted by streaming alternatives, was a poorly-conceived idea from the start, particularly when it was targeted towards an emerging minority demographic who'd be even less likely to adopt an aging legacy format. Oh, absolutely. It was a weird time to attempt something like it. Like, look, I’d love another LU alternative but I think the problem right now is that there hasn’t been enough “demand” for one or reason for a company to invest in one. It absolutely could happen, and it’s way more realistic than it was when LU got cancelled, just trying to be realistic. We’re talking about television executives here, the most illogical of humans sometimes. My thought was more just that that sort of format seems like it'd be more likely to get the SAG to be willing to jump on board than they would for just another bog-standard wrestling show.

If Freddy can get such names on board he will definetly be able to. And if I am being honest that is largely what interests me...like who is he gonna get to write , produce etc.

Would it, though? Like, I don’t think SAG seem like something that would jump on board for a particular format or else they’d have a narrow bracket of projects to take actors on from.

I believe LU did fall under SAG by the way I think EVW confirmed this a little after season 1.

Freddie and Billy Corgan are similar types — marks who have a passion for wrestling and SOME money but not BIG money. Billy has managed to kinda/sorta pull it off and maybe Prinze has a few connections he can lean on to invest and get it off the ground.
I’d like to see what his vision for a promotion would be, and what kind of talent he would be able to attract.

For the uninformed, what does SAG do for this hypothetical program? Is it a health benefits thing? That and pension and retirement benefits as well as help in negotiations and bargaining for better deals and such. I don't know how much leverage that really gives anyone though because the retirement and shit only looks good if you plan on staying somewhere for 30 years, which is likely not going to be the case for this venture.

But add the fact that he isn't just a money mark like a Toby Keith. He wrote for WWE and probably built a lot of connections there. Honestly, I see someone like Bray Wyatt showing up there. He's not the most money making man in wrestling(that guy is Swiss and I think headed to New Japan), but he's a creative dude who sells a ton of merch, and goes all f***ing in on his characters. If I were starting a promotion, he's one of the first free agents I'm looking at arranging a meeting with.

I'm all for it. Dude seems cool and looks to have a genuine passion for it. More promotions is a good thing. As long as there is variety between them.

If you’re a member of SAG and you earn at least 10 Pension Credits, you earn pension benefits which can be taken as early as age 55. You get one pension credit for every calendar year in which you work at least 70 days or earn at least $20,000 on SAG-covered work.
