Has there ever been any explanation for why the 'Sparky Plugg' character went through so many name revisions in such a short span of time? Or is this the kind of trivia that only I would care about?

Guy was a total jobber from the get go. WWF had no idea what to do with him early on. I remember him being Thurman Sparky Plugg and I remember people using the initials "STP" and Macho Man going "Sparky Thurman Sparky Thurman Sparky Thurman" which was about all one could do to get him over. LOL. I don't know when the Bob Spark Plugg Holly name came about or why they changed it but it probably helped a little when it came time to transition to Hardcore Holly so he doesn't have such a silly name before getting into the Attitude Era. I don't even remember him having an official match on TV before his debut at Royal Rumble 1994. And afterwards he replaced 123 Kid on the house show circuit while Kid was injured.

I preferred “Hollywood” Bob Holly from SMW.

Joey styles noticed his tights and said that he did have sponsors on his tights. The sponsors?

It's funny, I could've sworn he debuted with the NASCAR gimmick in 95 or 96, even though the gimmick itself screams New Generation occupational wrestler.
I think in my head I must've associated it with the WWF responding to WCW's crossovers with NASCAR in and around 96 and 97, but that's honestly probably giving them too much credit.

I was a kid so I loved nearly every babyface unconditionally. I thought Sparky Plugg was a dumb name, even though I was old enough to understand the reference. But that was even a better sounding wrestling name than "Bob Holly". I thought he was a dork and I often rooted against him.

I wonder what Bret thought of Bob Holly, given his WCW gimmick.

I preferred “Hollywood” Bob Holly from SMW. Was he Bob Holly, or Bob Howard, in SMW? EDIT: I guess I should've scrolled down further lmao

Because that is hilarious. He kinda said that on one of the WWE Network shows that counted down the worst gimmicks in WWE history (complete with Kane saying this in regards to Issac Yankem: “I think I know that guy.”) I’m not too sure exactly what he said but he did make up website urls that insulted the gimmick.

According to interviews and his book, Holly hated the Sparky Plugg name and eventually Vince agreed to change it. Odd that they settled on "Bob Holly," which was such a bland, normal-sounding name for 1994 New Generation WWF. Everyone I knew named Bob was like 45 or older, and they already had an old Bob with Backlund.

Given the NASCAR scene at the time I’m surprised they didn’t call him Dale.

Seeing Bob read the National Enquirer during his promos while swearing that he and Julia Roberts were just friends was more entertaining than “You can call me Sparky!”

HBH (Hollywood Bob Holly) HBH (Hitman Bret Hart) He was even wearing the same Hart Foundation tights in 1990 www.youtube.com/watch?v=BI-pN3YRvp0
