Didn't Bruce Lee just have a fairly comedic portrayal in a Tarrantino movie? Yes, and from all accounts the Lee Estate were not happy about it.

Well at least it wasn't because Fei Long was a "stereotype." Lord knows I need ANOTHER subject where people can whine/debate about cancel culture.
Does this effect new games or archives of the older ones? (i.e. would they need to cut/replace FL in a reissue of SSF2/SSF2X)
I also am one who's wondering what's to do with Liu Kang? How about lesser known games like World Heroes, which I believe had a Lee-like character too?
Oh well...CAPTAIN SAWADA'S TIME IS NOW!!

Honestly, of all the various Bruce Lee homages/ripoffs in fighting games and such over time, Fei Long always felt like the... lowest effort? For as many cultural stereotypes and shameless ripoffs of other media there are in early Street Fighter, he's damn near just a 1:1 translation and I agree that he was always kind of the least interesting of the SF2/SSF2 cast. Will be curious if they attempt to enforce this in terms of more indirect things like all the various imitators of his kiai, from Kenshiro to Liu Kang, or if it's for more direct portrayals only. It's kinda telling to me how much they don't care about him that he wasn't even in the crossover with Tekken when A) they could just reuse all his shit from 4 and B) Law was.

I always thought making a character a parody meant you could get away with something that would otherwise be a trademark infringement? Seems that making Fei-Long comedic would be a way for them to get around legal issues if anything.
Also couldn't it be argued that they waited too long to object? For example, he Lupin book people objected to Lupin The Third but it was ruled that they waited too long to complain so Lupin the Third was allowed to continue.

(It’s a Tarantino movie, so language warning.) Yeah, his family basically made him come off as an arrogant dick basically... I think Tarrantino was trying to hide it behind somewhat based on facts... Bruce had a habit of injuring stuntmen due to how he liked to do fight scenes up close... cause... that's how you fight. His wife wrote in a book she thought that Bruce could beat Ali if they were in a room and told to just have at it... though Bruce himself was quoted as laughing the question off talking about how much bigger Ali's hand is than his. There are also interpretations that this scene was meant to show Cliff as an unreliable narrator... due to the amount of people watching the fight fluctuates greatly.

Honestly, even as big as Street Fighter is, there's a decent chance that most of the important people within the Bruce Lee estate don't even know who Fei Long even is, let alone objecting to his existence as a homage.

I bet he'll make his triumphant return in SF7 or 8 as part of an official Lee family endorsed DLC pack, as nothing builds fan demand mire than the thought something was taken from them.

Maybe its because I'm an American, but the idea of being told you can't parody a public figure just offends me to my core. Fei Long isn't even a parody of him Which begs the question. What is the proper line between respectful and comedic to not draw their ire? Take Rock Lee, and Might Guy from Naruto for example. By all accounts they look and can act pretty silly, but at the same time they are two of the biggest badasses in the series. (For those who doubt in Lee's case. Keep in mind it takes brass balls to go after an enemy ninja with little more than your fists.) Are we just supposed to never feature those two again because they're "too silly" It raises a lot of questions I don't think I'm gonna like the answer to. --------------------- Also the irony is I never would have cared about this character if they had just kept quiet about the reasoning, and I'm pretty sure a lot of gamers and SF fans wouldn't have either.

Glad to hear this was BS as he was one of my favorites in Super Street Fighter.

Very fair point, considering the revelation on the last page that Tyson only recently learned about his own parody/homage character.

Well, I'm glad it's not true. Fei was always my favourite Bruce Lee homage.

Honestly, I'm more annoyed about the guy basically losing a gig because bad faith reporters tried to act like he was the source of something and they asked Namco Bandai about it.
