I remember my teacher telling us that the reason that first Star Wars came out was cause it was the only one that had like, a real decsisive ending or whatever, but I aint ever been able to get a real an answer on why George Lucas waited like 30 years to continue on with the prequels. I mean that was stupid, way higher expecatations, the prequels would be rated alot higher if they were released back then...

C'mon, Darth Maul wouldn't have even been half as cool back then.

I think he was waiting for CGI to improve. I remember him saying in an interview that he wanted the prequels to be on a much grander scale then the originals. If you watch the films in chronological order, you first see how huge and exotic the Star Wars galaxy really is, so when you get to the original trilogy you can understand better why Luke hates being trapped on that dust ball Tatooine.

He developed alot of stress while filming Star Wars that he had to be checked to a hospital. Filming in Tunisian desert held alot problems with the sand, sets and the general realization that his grand vision wasn't going to happen. Shooting was behind schedule from the get go with Fox threatening to cut off funding if it finished over. The last few weeks, there was three sets, three directors, and Luccas with a bike going to each stage to see every day. The first cut was terrible, if you've ever seen the first opening with Luke and his friends. It's bad.
This experience really contributed to him not directing the next two, though he was around often, or even another film. I guess thats why he embraces CGI and the green screen so much. Sets can be exactly how he wants, never deal with equipment getting ruined by sand or sets and props not looking right.

He had a background plan in place for 3 trilogies, but after the stress of the original trilogy was finished, he had no desire to go back to it for some time.

They'd find everything to complain about.
I've loved Star Wars since I was like 4...been watching the movies religiously ever since, and I don't mind the prequel trilogy at all.
In fact, the only thing I can think of that I didn't care for in the prequels was the casting of Anakin in The Phantom Menace. Just didn't like that kid.

^ That's pretty much how I see it too. I've been a huge SW fan since I was a kid. I enjoyed the prequels, granted not as much as the original trilogy. But I found them really enjoyable.
But yeah...Jake Lloyd was awful.

Jake Lloyd was crappy, but I really liked Revenge of the Sith (which was entirely Lloyd-free and had about 1 second worth of Jar-Jar)

This is the review Kevin Smith did for Revenge of the Sith when it came out. It's a fun and interesting read, most likely cuz it's Kevin Smith. www.viewaskew.com/news/sith/

Another thing that would get heat from hardcore fans that I don't care that Lucas went and changed the original trilogy with the special editions. They're his movies so he can do whatever he wants with them. Though I don't mind watching either versions of them.

I enjoy the all the movies and I enjoy Star Wars Galaxies too. You know this came gets some heat but I really like a whole lot. Of course though I can deny it has flaws. They should have cleaned it up a little more. I'll keep playing anyways. Just started Tatooine. You could go for miles on this planet and thank goodness you can look at a map to see where you're going.

It completely changes Han's character development. I will say this though, I got a good laugh out of the Star Wars Tales comics version of why the change happened in the first place.

Yeah, there are a lot of continuity problems in Star Wars if you start to think about it too much. Especially regarding the prequels.

I recalling reading a lot about this over the years, George was simply waiting for the right special effects in order for the prequels to be made.
And Jake Lloyd, that kid is gonna spend the rest of his life signing autographs at malls trying to hit on women by yelling "I am a person and my name is Anakin!" at them. Kind of what Virgil has been doing for the past few years.

The fact that the technology is better in the prequels than in the classic movies is kinda weird in of itself though.
