Not to give Russo credit or anything, but he was a large part of the show, booked (largely by himself) to be important. He didn't exactly win the title in convincing fashion and he vacated the title almost immediately, but as already mentioned that WCW had already gone past the point of no return.

Arquette was one of the first salvos in a war of stupidity. Russo was when the cannons nearly fell apart from all those savlos.

it feels utterly useless discussing anything Russo related as he's proven himself for a very very long time now that he's a loudmouth shithead who couldnt tell the truth with instructions and so most of the ideas you can confirm as his boil down to "bunch of shit" which he then waves off with "bro what people dont realooooise" followed by an hour of ether. Like I don't think you'd ever get to the truth of why he does things other than hes a clown with bad instincts.

I like to think that it isn't discussed because Russo likes to go 'but people talk about it bro' about Arquette's reign like that's a good thing, so we have collectively made an unspoken agreement to ignore it I always forget is the honest answer, and I think thats because WCW so done by late 2000 that everything is forgettable. As messy as it was, from Jan-July 2000 I have a rough idea of the happenings, I feel like you get to August and I havent got a clue of much of what happened in that last period, the most memorable bit is the last Nitro How dare you refuse to acknowledge the beauty that was the Magnificent Seven or the real head of the table, Above Average Mike Sanders In all seriousness, the very tail end of WCW became slightly less shit, and the Magnificent Seven doing a funeral for Goldberg with a spear and a jackhammer in a coffin was hilarious

Arquette is more remarkable, whereas the Russo one was just stupid.
Doing it with Vince was also questionable, but at least sort of made some level of sense, that Austin making him lose the title to Vince would humiliate Triple H. Russo winning the title on a fluke didn't especially further anything, story-wise.
Similarly, no one talks about Kevin Nash just handing the title to Flair out of pity because it was that kind of bad WCW storytelling that there just isn't much to say about past, "Yeah, that was dumb."
