I'm rewatching Wrestlemania 4 for reasons I'm unaware of and wondering if this can be explained
Why (in kayfabe and not kayfabe) did George The Animal Steele not enter the ring for the battle royal? Was it unsafe to eliminate him like Iron Sheik at 17?
Never seen it discussed previously (probably because such a non descript moment in Wrestlemania history)

He hurt his ankle or leg walking down the steps. It fit well with his character being able to stay outside the ring.

I think Maffew or someone did a compilation of guys stumbling walking down those damn steps at Mania 4 & 5.

I assumed it was related to his Crohn's disease, which would force him to retire later that year. Had never heard the ankle story before.

The injury has been mentioned for a while now. George would go on to wrestler another few months before his illness and even close to 70 or more he had a match, where a indy guy botched a moonsault and landed his knees on George.
I love how legit dense/oblivious Gorilla could be some times, not knowing George never made it inside the ring and Jesse legit has to correct him the whole time.

I know he's a legend and everything, and it's easy to remember when Gorilla was good, but there's so many other times he's downright checked out. I grew up watching a lot of the bigger shows, so it always confused me that WON always gave him "worst announcer", but later hearing him on tapes of Prime Time...yeah he was definitely on auto pilot a lot of the time.

Everyone always acts like this was the end for George but he got Mine shortly after Mania and that lasted long enough for the doll to go into production to be sold through their mail order catalog.

Not just an Indy guy, it was future ROH champion Matt Taven

I don't know if it was something with the audio at the event or if it was Gorilla checking out but he really seemed checked out at the 1993 Royal Rumble. His voice seemed almost like it had disdain at various points in the show. The banter with Bobby wasn't as funny as it was at previous shows. It was like he knew it was time to step away from the commentary for a bit. Crazy thing is he would have only been 53 or 54 at that point.

He probably felt old and used up, knowing that exciting youngster Carlos Colon was in the building.

I know Sags had a dark match with Sam Houston but I guess Gorilla wasn't part of watching that. By 1992 and 1993 he would have known the difference. Gorilla was usually pretty good with telling guys apart.

Gorilla f***ed up on commentary similarly at Survivor Series 1991. He was going on about Shawn walking out on Marty during their elimination match when Shawn was clearly pinned and eliminated on screen. Even after showing the replay of Shawn’s elimination he still didn’t seem to grasp what happened.

Gorilla and Jesse were hilarious during this. I enjoyed their commentary through the whole show. This is one of my favourite Wrestlemanias, despite questionable booking, a sometimes bored crowd, some long winded matches, etc but one of the things that saves it for me is Gorilla and Ventura.

Bob Uecker should have been brought back every few years, even if just for a few short segments. Kind of like Pete Rose but without getting attacked. The only odd thing is, he spends three hours looking for Vanna White and the whole angle is killed when he says some guy named "Vance White" sent him a letter to come. It's like late 1990s WCW or 2020s WWE style storyline.

One of my favorite commentary moments of all-time is when Ricky Steamboat is trying to figure out how to get his baby out of the ring before the match. Gorilla: Steamboat looking for a way to get the little dragon out of the ring. Jesse: Maybe he’ll chuck him over the top!

And I like how Jesse said Richie had "cheeks fatter than Bundy" and Bundy had been gone around 2 months.
