I see the confusion here. Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan are characters. Sometimes they just say things they don’t actually mean. For instance, while they often bickered on camera, they were good friends IRL. Ok so if they were just being in character what was the point of the babyface lead announcer throwing shade at the beloved celebrity guest?

I believe there was a WWE roundtable about celebrities in wrestling and Jim Ross repeatedly stated how Cyndi Lauper didn't "respect the business", despite no evidence of that and him not being there at the time. Quite curious.

Quite curious. Watching that, I got the impression JR hates all celebrities in wrestling. Though it was funny when he went for the David Arquette having no respect for wrestling, only for DDP to cut him off with a whole bit about how much Arquette had respected the wrestlers, up to donating his WCW pay to the families of Brian Pillman and Droz. Even JR is unusually speechless afterwards!

It's asking why Gorilla seemingly deviated from how his character usually acted on-screen to deliberately go out of his way to shit on Aretha Franklin.

In ten million stories about WrestleMania 3, not one person has even hinted at Aretha being a problem, other than she got stuck in traffic and was late to call time. They've wasted no time in talking about how celebs were to deal with, both positive and negative. Sometimes, people just say things that don't mean anything.

I have a hard time believing that Gorilla spontaneously decided to break character and throw shade on one of their celebrity guests just for shits. Possible? Yes, but it's like the least rational explanation ever. Maybe he took offense to something that occurred in his own personal interaction with her that no one else witnessed, or maybe others witnessed it and just didn't read it the same way he did. It seems more likely that Gorilla was just the only one who was both cranky enough and/or who was running low enough on f**ks to express annoyance, whether her offense was real or just Gorilla being a dick.
