It's an interesting comparison. I'm not convinced this long period of silence has done anything to build momentum for this storyline. People seem to have just moved on. Maximizing the impact of MJF's return is paramount at this point, and that impact is diluted if he's back after 2 weeks the way Punk was. Guarantee you whatever arena his return takes place in is gonna goddamn explode. Beyond that, if it's a worked shoot angle that you're genuinely trying to sell as a shoot, there'd be zero reason to address any of it on TV, because genuine shoots in AEW (the few that there have been anyway - Ivelisse no-selling Rosa, Shanna trying to big-league Leyla) haven't been mentioned either. He was massively over before he left, and he'll be massively over when he comes back. That's true whatever happens. It may well be that the storyline is covering up real issues and there is a genuine reason why MJF hasn't been seen nor heard of. But if it's a creative choice, I don't think it's a particularly good one. Far from him being the hottest star in wrestling, if it wasn't for this thread popping up I'd forget he existed. When this thread first started it grew 30 pages in 7 days. It's since done five pages in two months. There is no anticipation being built by this complete silence.

See I think this thread calming the hell down is actually a good thing, because I remember this whole situation being utterly exhausting to follow even in the first week. If we'd been getting inundated with fake newz leaks, or Tony Khan trying to cut heel boss promos, or whatever, for the past three months I would've been completely fed up with this storyline and with MJF as a television character.

The buzz of it all has definitely died down, the key is whether when(if) MJF returns, how they do it and how the people respond but I'm not convinced whatever happens they couldn't have done after 2/3 weeks rather than months.

I would like to think they’re playing the long-game. Doing here what WWE didn’t do with Punk in 2011. But we’ll see. The thing with Punk in 2011 was that he didn't just vanish though. He appeared at an Indy, then at a convention and there was anticipation as to where he would turn up next. MJF just whooshed into the ether.

I don't know what the relationship is between AEW and Impact, but it would have been interesting to have MJF show up on a one of the latter's shows as a guest (perhaps with the implication that management invited him as payback for Tony Khan insulting them last year) to cut a few promos about the situation. It would make sense in kayfabe (as TK has no jurisdiction in Impact) would be something easily spread on social media even if AEW never directly promotes it, and would at least give this angle somewhat better pacing.

Kazarian wrestled at Slammiversary, so relations must be good between Impact and AEW.

I wonder how it would go over if MJF somehow managed to get front row/facing hard cam during Raw or Smackdown. That would certainly be an outside of the box move.

Yesterday Britt posted a pic of MJF and now we get Cash tweeting this, feels like Maxwell is coming back soon.

Getting Danielson, Punk, Omega and MJF all back in the span of a month would certainly do a lot for the company’s momentum and quality.

Honestly, I like that they’re taking their time with this!
Although I am a bit biased since I was there live for when he left lmao. God, I’ve never seen a place lose their collective shit like that before and I’ve been to a looooooot of shows. People will freak out when he’s back whether it’s tomorrow or in a few months.

I’ll never forget it. was up super close too in the section behind the floor and even the people who went with me who don’t usually watch wrestling were like “that was real wtf what was that holy shit” and freaking out. Unforgettable moment live, maybe the most electric I’ve seen.

I think it's just FTR having a bit of fun with reuniting with former Pinnacle stablemate Wardlow. Not a sign they're going to turn heel again and reform Pinnacle with MJF. They've been the whitest of white hot babyfaces lately and turning them heel to run with MJF this soon after turning face would be a big mistake IMO.

My friend and I were higher up but chanting his name from the get-go when he was getting nuclear heat lol I don’t know if you heard but people kept mustering up “MJF” chants throughout the taping after that. Couldn’t believe it. It’s either that or when Jay White nearly killed JR at the G1 special for me as far as electric moments go lol

My sister and I ran into MJF the other day. He wouldn't admit that he was MJF but we knew it was him. He looks really different but I think that's kind of the idea.

After the promo he cut it's hard to tell if he's deep sixing to sell it, or if he played Tony into letting him do an angle before bailing, and that fact is part of what makes me really hope that whatever it is either gets resolved or vanishes forever. If MJF just legit disappeared from the public eye and went on to be a fisherman in Alaska or something equally obscure, that would honestly be an amazing end to all of this

I sometimes wonder if Max had planned on his whole thing being the biggest wrestling story out there for the year to generate buzz and for it only to be curtailed by the biggest wrestling story in possibly ever with Vince retiring.
