Just finished chapter 2, pretty good so far. One thing that I can see people liking or hating is that this feels way more like a journey. Pathways that were straight lines to your destination now require backtracking. Not backtracking in the traditional RE sense, but more arriving at a location and needing to find an item to leave that location. Think the ravin bit in the original after you meet the Merchant for the first time, and how you need to get the two emblem halves to open the door, now you need to do something like that for multiple sections. It's still early, and I'm sure it will change, but the story and tone are pretty similar to the original. The game does a great job of baiting you with something you expect to see from the original and then mixing it up. Some of them are: {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} You hear pounding making you think it's Luis in the wardrobe but it's a ganado pounding shut the floorboards where Lius now is. There's a reference to that creepy wriggling bag from the original. Entering the "Big Cheese's" house, the first door you see is to the bathroom where there's a ganodo on the crapper.

Whoever came up with the new shooting gallery deserves a raise.

Went to do chapter 7 and my DLC just inexplicably completely stopped working, even after deleting and redownloading it multiple times. Setting the game itself to redownload now and very much hoping that fixes it, can't seem to find any real record of anyone else having this glitch.

Me: The new characterization is pretty good but I don't know if it's worth it if a lot of the campiness is gone.
*two hours later*
Me: I would die for Ashley.

Reinstalled the game, repeatedly reinstalled the DLC, guess I'm just shit out of luck. Makes me not even want to bother playing the damn thing anymore.
Edit: Turns out restoring my licenses fixed it.

Considering I just finally bought Resident Evil 3, I should get around to playing this by 2026

This game is fantastic. I think my only complaint is it feels like they wanted to the game arbitrarily more difficult so sometimes Leon is unnaturally slow and awkward, especially for how canonically badass and well-trained he is, so he does things like randomly wave his arms instead of just pointing his gun and shooting. The shooting itself feels a little wonky compared to the previous remakes but overall, it's a very minor complaint in the grand scheme of things.

What kind of crack were they on when they came up with half the stuff in the original?

What kind of crack were they on when they came up with half the stuff in the original? They were eating rotisserie chicken.

I only played for a few minutes last night, the Village fight kicked my ass. It wasn’t even close. Lol

"It murders an aspect of her character." This idiocy doesn't surprise me. I've seen complaints about the auto-arrange feature for the briefcase. You know, an OPTIONAL FEATURE.

"It murders an aspect of her character." It's professor level Pantyist literary criticism applied. Displaying encyclopedic knowledge of RE4's original pantyism, how it shaped its surrounding world and how that reflected on the world around us. Deeply impressive.

"It murders an aspect of her character." "no getting an accidental Ashley upskirt dialogue when performing a suplex on an enemy" okay to be fair I am going to miss this, always made me laugh my ass off

You know they got the feel of RE4 right when you come out of the Garrador fight feeling like a badass with tons of extra supplies then you reach the water room and come out of it in limping agony with barely any bullets left.

I don't want to jinx it but the castle alone puts this game above the original for me. It is missing a few bits but it improves almost everything from the original and has the best story beats. There's only three bits I have problems with, mostly little niggles though. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} 1. Like with the village, backtracking for some of the treasure can be irritating and take a while. But I'm still glad it's in the game. 2. The statue bit is gone for the most part and what's there ain't very compelling. 3. Ramon as a character gets a lot less screen time to the point where I almost forgot about him due to so many better things happening in his absence. I was disappointed then his boss fight happened and it was incredible. It's the best fight in the game and all the back and forth between him and Leon was there to the point where it almost redeemed his diminished role.

I always kind of liked her to start with but goddamn this game's version of Ashley is such a great character. Just finished the part where you play as her and she feels so much more fleshed out and human and fun in this game.
Even if they did murder an aspect of her character or whatever.

This could be fake but someone did a data mine of the game and found a file called "Another Order" which is the Japanese title of "Separate Ways". I figure it's a given though since: {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} U3 was heavily referenced in the notes but we never fought it. I'm guessing they were just saving it for Ada.

This game feels way harder than the OG even on Normal, which is kind of odd. I'm not complaining but I have definitely died way more here than I ever did in the original.
