This game feels way harder than the OG even on Normal, which is kind of odd. I'm not complaining but I have definitely died way more here than I ever did in the original. Yeah, it's definitely less forgiving than the original. Honestly in ways that often feel rather cheap, like it feels like they just have way too many enemies at a lot of points.

I think it's the amount of enemies, combined with how you can kind of get stunlocked in certain situations, and how Leon just doesn't react sometimes when you're trying to reload, point, and shoot. I think they were trying to make the enemies a real threat, like they did with the other remakes, but oddly enough he feels slightly more clunky here than he did in the RE2 remake. I think they also made the villager's weapon attacks hit for major damage to encourage you to use the knife parrying system but even when you max out the upgrades it's just not very sturdy so while it looks awesome and it's fun to do it doesn't feel wholly viable, with there being SO MANY ENEMIES and all of them hitting like a truck.

That kind of relates to another problem I have with the game, that they kind of go through putting in all of these stealth mechanics and then it's impossible to be stealthy because the knife breaks if you breathe on it too hard and there are always 41 dudes waiting around the next corner for you who'll all instantly see you when you get within 200 feet of them.

I only played for a few minutes last night, the Village fight kicked my ass. It wasn’t even close. Lol Update; my first village attempt was paused, and on my attempt to just die I managed to wait it out until the bell rang. I’m yet to die, but it’s coming. Encounters are overwhelming and I’m eventually gonna just run out of resources. Just finished Ch2 last night. About to move on soon.

I just realized that Ada's new outfit is almost exactly like Lana from Archer. XD

I left off right before Verdugo last night myself. The twin Garradors kicked my ass enough I know I'm going to get eaten alive in this one, perhaps literally.

I'm glad to hear people are having a difficult time even on normal because I'm getting destroyed on hardcore. I'm kind of feeling bitter towards the game as it told me to play on hardcore because I've played the original, lol. I feel like my knowledge hasn't helped that much besides knowing to throw flashbangs to insta kill certain enemies. Capcom tricked me!!
Anyway, it's still a great game, I'm just frustrated as f***.

How are people doing with bosses? I feel this is where the game is easier than the original. The lake monster, dual Gigantes, and Krauser felt like breezes in comparison.
Also, I'm seeing John Wick tonight with family and despite it being the only movie series I'm currently interested in I'm kind of bummed because I want to spend every minute not at work playing RE4!

So far those haven't been super bad for me, though I've not gotten into some of the later ones. Del Lago was definitely easier than the original, despite having significantly more health, and I didn't really struggle a lot with Bitores either. El Gigante I thought was harder than the original but I think that's just because I kept defaulting to the same, "Get in really close to him," strategy that works very well in the original and it really does not work in this version.

I gotta be honest, I'm really not enjoying this at all. I'm still only at the village fight but it feels like Leon is wading through tar with his movements, aiming, etc. Everything feels super clunky in a way the other REmakes and even 7 and Village didn't. And this is after adjusting the camera sensitivity, aim assist, etc.

He fights like he’s having a bad dream. My rule of thumb is if I can do something in real life, the damn character who is way more badass than me should be able to, but between his awkward flailing, clunky aiming, and weird movement speed, he definitely doesn’t feel like an elite agent. I also recently replayed the remakes and things were way smoother there, so I know it has to be a deliberate decision, but it’s definitely not a good one.

I think my most hated enemies in this game are ones that throw explosives. They just seem to have a constant rate of fire, never letting up at all, due to the game's camera it's usually extremely different to even tell where the hell they are, and Leon moves so slowly and awkwardly that they're all but impossible to dodge if you're not in the middle of a completely clear expanse with no enemies around when one is thrown at you.

I legitimately absolutely hate the Salazar fight. It's just absolute f***ing bullshit. If you're going to make him fly does he have to keep both the shell and the one-hit kill? It's just such an utterly bullshit fight where how long you last basically just comes down to how fair he feels like being with his irritating ass zipping around everywhere.

Beat it. Overall the island was about the same quality wise to the original. But it's brought down by Sadler basically being non existent. Between him and Salazar I don't know why they would cut their comm communications. I didn't need Leon to quip at everything they said, but him reacting to their taunts would have done nothing but build them up. They had a foundation for two good villains and they just chose not to use it. Between this and RE2 Remake separating Leon and Claire through the entire story I don't get why the remakes just decide not to have the most important characters in their stories not interact.
Negativity aside, I really liked this game, definitely more than the original. But I'm in the camp that appreciates what the original did at the time but grew to like it less due to what it turned the series into. This version just feels way more like a RE game through and through.

This part they added where you have to flee from Chief Mendez is incredibly obnoxious. Between Ashley getting immediately taken out of commission if someone bumps into her, it basically being impossible to help her once she's been incapacitated, the instant game over when she gets picked up by Mendez, and how f***ing slow Leon and Ashley are, I've not been having a great time just trying to run down a path.

That part's kind of extra annoying because it's actually really short, it's basically just a matter of knowing where the enemies spawn and not to take the dead end. IE, it's trial and error.
