I'd love for Dwayne to eventually release a real memoir. There would be so much to talk about, from growing up in the business, his run in WWE and reaching the top, and becoming a Hollywood star. No way you could fit all that in one book. He'd probably have to do a series of books like Jericho did.

Chyna's "If they only knew" says hello Didn't read that one. Had the foresight to avoid it You didn’t want to read about “Sean Michaels” and numerous other misspelled superstars?!

Mick coming out with his first book brought on a barrage of wrestler books super quickly. We had Rock, Austin, Chyna, Angle. Mick's was set apart, much like Bret's, was done by himself so it was noticeably different and better. I don't recall too many autobiographies from wrestlers prior. Ted Dibiase did one in late 97, early 98 and Arn Anderson did one around the same time as Mick and was entirely kayfabe. Dynamite Kid was around the same time. Mick's book was a trendsetter and maybe not in a good way, it showed a market for wrestler autobiographies and they weren't nearly as good as Mick's. I don’t think I knew Ted’s book predated Mick’s because when talking about wrestlers autobiographies, Mick is said to have the first one and before Mick’s book, publishers were hesitant on publishing books like that because they somehow thought that wrestling fans couldn’t read. Though to be fair, Mick is more famous than Ted Diviase especially in 1999 so there’s that.

It probably went under the radar if it was a self publish or not a major publication. It was paperback. Some reason I lost it or it got thrown out and was looking for it year later and couldn't find it. I also recall it was more centered on his later life redemption rather than a big wrestling related book. Mick set the standard though.

It could be common knowledge but is the book written in third person? Half the book is written like a standard biography with some strange entries like how he was going to piledrive a kid in high school and described his first sexual encounter. And then we get to the in character stuff and it's just beyond cringe.

Thankfully we dodged a literary bullet, as in Foley's second book he mentioned that at first "Have a Nice Day" was going to be written in a similar style to "The Rock Says." (Ghostwritten, part real life/part kayfabe.)
But Mick was able to make Vince/the publishers see reason and was able to write the book himself.

It could be common knowledge but is the book written in third person? Parts of it are. Certain chapters are written as Dwayne, some are written by the Rock, which are all in the 3rd person.

I remember seeing the book at a Salvation Army thrift store, I think 2009 on a family trip. My family knows I like wrestling so they were looking out for things with me in the store. They showed me the Rock book but I wasn't interested. About 12 or so years earlier I picked up a Brutus Beefcake puzzle at the same store. I'd rather have that, though it's gone now.

I could not be remembering properly but didn't Mick write a sampling to convince them? Anyway, I at one point owned a bunch of 'autobiographies'. 'Have a nice day' is by and large the best, and the only book ever that I have read more than a couple times. I couldn't get more than a quarter of the way through 'The Rock Says'. Same with Kurt Angle's, but his was just f***ing boring. I did, however, enjoy Hogan's for the sheer amount of bollocks in it, and Jerry Lawler's, as it gave me more insight into 'Memphis wrestling'.
