Just wondering, as a bunch of NJPW juniors move up to heavyweight, does it ever happen the other way where a heavyweight cuts weight to compete in the junior division?
I know there are examples in WWE, with both Matt Hardy and Christian having comedic skits to drop to the lower weight class. Obviously, the X Division title doesn't count as for the majority of its life it didn't have a weight limit.
Any other examples are welcomed but if anyone knows of a New Japan example where the weight classes are treated a bit more seriously, that would be great.

Atsushi Kotoge from NOAH moved from Jr. to Heavy back around 2016-17, he didn't even really bulk up at all, he just annunced himself as being a heavyweght guy. Then he dropped back down to Jr. only a couple of years later.

They made a big deal about Brad Armstrong dropping some weight so he could compete in the WCW cruiserweight division.

Buddy Murphy probably would not have anywhere near the career he has now if he hadn't aggressively cut weight to get onto 205 Live and do the best work of his career to that point. One of the only non home grown guys to actually make the WWE brass ring shit work for him.

"Playboy" Buddy Rose being able to drop down to 217 pounds at a moments' notice for a match is mind-boggling if you think about it.

Like, of all the shit to be a shoot, why something fans literally could not possibly verify visually?

We have to make sure that we keep it realistic when dealing with things that are notably accurate like *checks notes* wrestling heights and weights

Disco Inferno had an off-again on-again plot point where his natural wrestling weight was around 230 and he'd have to work to cut every time he wanted to dip into the cruiserweight division.

I don't think he ever made it to junior, but the difference in Hulk Hogan before and after the steroid trial is pretty jarring.

His face became gaunt, cheeks sunk inward and if he was bleaching his eyebrows, he must have stopped. Yeah, he also looked like he dropped 40 lbs...so maybe the weight drop affected his face.

I've always kind of wondered this too, but I've also noticed that Piper's face looked very different around the time of Wrestlemania 1 and 2 than it did after he came back from filming They Live.

He just lost the bloat and went back to looking like a normal human being.
