Listening it in my headphones and where the F-slur is supposed to be is so mumbled, spitty and unclear I can't make out what it is and it gets worse with every listen.
However, I won't doubt that it's the F-slur as he calls him queer clear as day beforehand. I doubt he meant weird or strange by that.

Not to be outdone, Dustin Rhodes plans to retire this year, and has decided to call one of his final opponents "gaywad". Dustin retires and on the way out announces everyone in attendance is banned from his Twitter.

Having now seen the kiss clip and promo, yeah, I think that's all it was. Muta got defeated via the power of gay strategy and tried to get his heat back afterward while not burying Shinsuke, and "well you're GAY!" was the best his character could come up with, which just makes him look worse. It's pro wrestling 101. Speaking as a not-straight myself, I think some might be getting a bit too worked up here. On the internet?! I know - shocking.

It never ceases to amaze me how reserved and conservative the Japanese can be, yet they also never fail to embrace the insane homoeroticism of pro wrestling whenever and however they can. This comment aged well, haha! As for the new news, I'd say 'Dont let the door hit your ass on the way out Muta' but you'd probably accuse it of being gay.

Definitely says those two words. It can be heard pretty clearly. It's a very misjudged attempt at a nonchalant promo, but I'm not gonna hold it against him. I understand if others do, however.

From defending it to dismissal of an issue. I'm sure if Muta wrestled a black man, and then uttered 2 racial slurs in the scrum we'd be having a very different conversation. It wouldn't be some people going "whoa, wait a minute..." followed by "OMG YOU'RE OVER REACTING, AND HEY I'M A PERSON OF COLOR WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL, STOP OVER REACTING!" And yes, he definitely says those 2 words. And yes, I'm allowed to be bothered by it, and also allowed to feel the way I do about the "hey what's the big deal?" stance some people have.

The idea Muta intentionally threw out a grade school insult as character work to make himself 'look worse' after his retirement match like he thought the best move was to be a doofus heel looking silly and therefore people being upset by the fact an all-time great went out on a homophobic slur is something to shame and mock sure is. A thing to put out into the world, I guess? Muta's a legend whose send-off included an actual slur and honestly even if he decided he needed to doofus it up at the very end as a heel just to give Shinsuke a little bit more, it'd still be super reasonable to be ultra miffed that he went for homophobia for heat after the storied career he's had.

I don't think I can get hot enough to hate the dude forever (which I will admit is a moral failing on my part), but still not a good move, Mutoh.

Tbh the reactions I’ve seen are understandable surprise/shock and strange defending/justifying of it. The reactions to reactions in this thread have been disappointing. And yes, he definitely says those 2 words. And yes, I'm allowed to be bothered by it, and also allowed to feel the way I do about the "hey what's the big deal?" stance some people have. Well first off I'm not even going to begin to speculate about what the "black" equivalent of losing to a gay kiss would be. Now, if your argument is "I don't like when those words are put out there, period, regardless of context", well okay. Many POCs hate any and all uses of the N-word. Not just the obvious negative one, but all of them. With the A, when rappers say it, when comedians use it in a joke, when blacks use it, etc. You can feel similarly strongly about that with the F-word or anything else. I'm just saying maybe we as a society as a whole should pick our online battles better. Save the outrage and/or disappointment for the homophobe who DIDN'T kiss a guy five minutes before saying that word and who definitely wasn't working. You seriously wonder why I can't take this too seriously?

I really do think he was going for...something with that, but whatever it was just didn't land. At all. Which sucks, because I think we all agree the mist spot itself was great! It's like your favorite team blowing the game in the last two minutes.
