So the Goldberg thread got me thinking.
Which of these two massive babyfaces turning heel killed business more for their respective companies?

WWF had more business to loose.
WCW was well and truly on a downward spiral, WWF was on fire and had no competition going in to Austin's turn, Even though Austin's turn was still the better of the two creatively and made for better television.

Austin. People were still watching and actually cared. They did the turn on their biggest show ever and after that people slowly stopped watching and slowly stopped caring. It's a decision WWF/E still hasn't recovered from over 21 years later.

Goldberg mattered less because of where WCW was at the time. They were already in bad shape.
Austin turning was disastrous for the actual business of the company. People didn’t want it, and it showed in declining ratings. And it wasn’t just Austin turning that caused it, but also that they didn’t have a top face that they were ready to push in his place.

Voted Goldberg as it was one of the reasons WCW had to close its doors. Probably not a MAIN reason, but indicative of all the dumb decisions that led to their doors closing eventually.

To add on to this, goldberg never got the title back after they took it off of him at starrcade 98! Both are great reasons. I think a red hot babyface Goldberg in 2000 would draw at least SOME viewers back to WCW. This was really their saving grace and of course they blew it.

I get why they turned Austin, especially since I'm sure Steve was creatively burned out, but had they waited another year, it probably would have gone over better. 2001 was already tumultuous, so turning him screwed with what would have been some needed normalcy.
I still voted Goldberg due to it being something that had basically no rationale behind it other than, "They won't see it coming!". I don't think him staying face would have saved WCW, exactly, but it increased the bleeding tremendously.
