I don’t like that Miro always used the Super Accolade as his Game Over. It’s like Kurt angle’s Ankle lock. Should be the final form of the finisher when nothing else will work My problem with that line of thought is: if someone has a Super form of their finisher that basically guarantees victory if they use it, then why wouldn’t they use it every time? I mean, something like Cena’s Avalanche AA is an exception because it’s a lot more difficult to set-up, but for submission moves that only require you to fall backwards or grapevine the leg or whatever, it kind of makes the guys look stupid whenever they don’t do it.

Undertaker's tombstone changed from his unique variation to the standard tombstone, and I'll admit that I liked it better the first way.

I feel like 99.9% of New Japan Finishers are pretty diluted, especially if it's the main event. The Rainmaker, Destino. The OWA is the last big protected finisher that I can think of from NJPW.

The RamPaige was turned into a faceplant after Paige returned in 2017, as opposed to a spiked Cradle DDT.
Unfortunately, I think that may have been a sign in hindsight that her in-ring career wasn't going to last much longer.

Over time it seems like Brian Cage's Drill Claw has gone from a terrifying Steiner-level head-drop to an elevated back bump. Basically, it's gone from the Steiner Screwdriver to a more impactful Falcon Arrow.

Cena legit caused somebody (I think Edge?) to pass out in the STF and yeah, ever since, you can drive monster trucks through the gaps between his hands

Okada has like an entire arsenal of Rainmaker variations that he uses to the buildup to his finisher Rainmaker.

Okada has like an entire arsenal of Rainmaker variations that he uses to the buildup to his finisher Rainmaker. And Naito has the same with Destino, but the variations are weaker both in kayfabe and in how they look. Only a handful of people have kicked out of the full Rainmaker.

Speaking of Cena, I understand why the FU/Attitude Adjustment went from straight up Death Valley Driver to him just slamming them as hard as possible, but then he went from that to just sort of shrugging them off his shoulders.

The Rock really diluted Bret’s Sharpshooter by doing the shittiest version of it on Earth.

The Beverly Brothers had the opposite to usual with the Shaker Heights Spike, where the absolute death head spike version was done to jobbers, and the glorified double flapjack was done in any match with established talent.

I've always thought of it as having something put away just in case and so people can't learn to counter or adapt to it. Like yeah Angle grapevining the leg is near guaranteed victory but the more people see it or are in it, the chances it loses its effectiveness over time grow so why not save it for desperate times when the normal one can work?
