As a Brit I had no idea who he was, but it turns out that people outside of Baltimore might not have known either! I can’t remember the match, but I do recall either Gorilla or Savage letting out an audible exhale of frustration as Art continued being Art. I think if Vince had been there, he would have been ‘politely removed’ from proceedings about two matches in. Either that or lots of Vince's cheesy fake laughing and Art Donovan getting hired to work Raw because you never know with Vince.

I desperately want to say this was a Kevin Dunn special since he is/was a football fanatic and Baltimore native. So I guess for the only time in my life, Kevin Dunn was actually responsible for entertaining me, both when I was 9 years old and when I've watched back this shitshow, albeit unintentionally.

It was pretty funny how Art knew nothing and yet this was supposed to be a show that showcased a "new generation" of talent that was supposed to be the guys of the future. Art knew NONE of them...NONE. Like I have to imagine some guys like Buzz Aldrin or Jeremy Piven or Mike Adamle would at least know someone prior to accepting their gigs. But not Art. King of the Ring was a PPV showcase of some of the more "top" guys in WWF so someone should be known to a celebrity even if they don't follow wrestling.
Then you have Mayor Schaefer who was a Hulk Hogan fan and the main event with King and Piper (who seemed ancient but would be younger than Edge, Cena, Lesnar now, and much younger than Goldberg and Taker in their last matches). Add on top a commentary team with a combined age of 166.
J. Hova, you're probably right about Dunn. He's probably of age of when the Colts were still hot in Baltimore and if he went to Towson U he would be near most of the former Colt's and the areas they lived.
And just now looking at Kevin's IMDB bio, it reads like something he would have done himself. Not as long as Brimstone's but written as if the person who wrote it is the subject themself.

It really was a bad omen at the start when Gorilla got his name wrong and Gorilla knew he didn't know it either. The way he said it and turned away from Art as he said it.
Still at least the WWE learned their lesson and never put another person on commentary with limited knowledge about wrestling ever again.

My head canon likes to believe Art was actually a big Wrestling fan, but sandbagged the show out of spite for Gorilla getting his name wrong.

I'm watching a Burt Reynolds movie on TV and it really surprised me WWF wouldn't have had him for some sort of commentary. He knew the wrestlers and enjoyed the product so he could have done a whole show like Art or at least done one match. But I guess it makes too much sense to have a guy who was a real fan be part of whole show. They didn't even use him during the Raw host era when he would have been healthy and yet he spent the last few years of his life doing the autograph convention and marked out seeing wrestlers on the show circuit.

Bret says in his book Burt hated being at Mania X. Everyone else says he loved it. So I guess Burt Reynolds wasn’t a Hitman fan.

There are pictures that have surfaced with him and Freddie Blassie and with Yokozuna. Google images shows even more with Dave Hebner, Bushwhackers, Doink, Tatanka and Dink and one where he is bowing to Freddie to kiss a ring he was wearing (I heard that story many years prior to now seeing this photo). Funnily enough there was a google image with Bret and Burt (more recent, prior to passing) and Bret tweeted after Burt died "I had the pleasure to see Burt recently. Although visibly frail, he remembered me. I thanked him for his part of Wrestlemania X. He was a real fan, thoroughly enjoyed the event, the wrestlers & fans. He was a class act and I’m honoured to have been able to tell him that. R.I.P." So I wonder what really went on at the PPV because this wasn't a guy just in it for the pay day like I think Uecker was. He was just as much a fan as we are.

He had a lot of stuff to say about others. So who knows if it was true or he got that info third hand

You are correct. Was listening to the STW KOTR Mega-sode! on the way home from work. It was indeed a Kevin Dunn special.

Savage and Gorilla was a horrible duo anyway.
