I'm not sure at this fits, but I've been going through the old Smoky Mountain Wrestling episodes on YouTube. In one show I watched yesterday, Dixie Dynamite, Brian Harris, and Tim Horner are all cutting promos. Dixie Dynamite mentions how they were all at a little boy's birthday party. Maybe it's just me, but no one mentioned why the f*** these three grown men (one in a mask) were at a child's birthday party.
Like I said, I'm not sure if this fits, but damn if this hasn't been on my mind since first seeing/hearing it.

Any attempt to use the internet, and especially hack a computer, in the 90s. *types on keyboard frantically to try and hack the mainframe firewall* This isn't just a 90s thing, this still happens in modern films.

Any time characters hold it against someone when they did something under mind control, and the character with the grudge explicitly knows mind control happened, and we're supposed to take that seriously. Sisko is a good character. His grudge against Picard is stupid. Picard is not responsible for the actions of Locutus of Borg. That's more or less an example of this done right, I guess, in that Sisko at least seems aware his grudge is irrational, he's just having difficulty digesting it. Unfortunately, way too many things get this wrong. I've seen someone try to compare this to drunk driving before, but no, it's much more comparable to being drugged against your will. People rarely willingly submit to mind control, what with the whole "it's mind control" thing and all. You could argue that the person under the mind-control lacked the willpower to resist it and for that reason they're at fault. There's plenty of instances in fiction where the reverse happens: a brainwashed hero is able to 'snap out of it' after being compelled to do something especially heinous.

There's an episode of Burn Notice that annoyed me. The one character is handcuffed to a pipe in a factory that is rigged to explode and it's a race against time. He tells his friend to go without him but his friend grabs something large and starts trying to smash the pipe. The thing is, the pipe is clearly two pipes connected by a clamp in the middle. Literally, it would take about five seconds to undo that clamp and then you could slide the handcuffs off. We have them all over the place in the factory I work in. It just completely killed the tension for me.

Whenever a defense attorney comes up with some suprise evidence to clear their client, like the prosecution wouldn't have access to the same evidence beforehand as well.

Every single time Joker gets off on an insanity defense See also Doctor Doom and Diplomatic Immunity. At best he'd be forced to leave America and never come back. Diplomatic Immunity in a lot of things. They act like it's a free pass for people to do whatever the hell they want.

Both times I did the dastardly crime of bringing fresh dates and olive oil from Algeria back to the USA.

Movies where the "controversial" new teacher gains the respect of his/her inner city class that would otherwise not care about passing the class/graduating. Not only do these kids always go to class, but they also pay attention. It would be a miracle to get 50% of my former classmates to show up, let alone not be distracted with cross talking, texting, drawing, sleeping or doing something else. How do I reach these keeeeeeeds??

I mean at least they're clear that it's a highly exaggerated version of the Japanese court system and not a realistic portrayal of actual law.

You motherf***er, you! {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}How was Algeria, BTW? Loved it. It was admittedly odd and strange because I was basically with a couple of fully armed dudes the entire time. Was fairly sad that I only got to see the overly rich stuff. I wanted to eat some real Algerian food and see more rustic stuff. Instead spend half the time being driven around 100+mph in the back of a Mercedes. Ate a bunch of stupidly over the top French food. I got gout.

There’s a bit at the end of Love Actually that always makes me twitch. There’s a kid trying to get to an airport in time to kiss the girl he loves before she goes. They get to the airport but she’s already plane-side. His stepfather encourages him to sneak through security and he then out-runs a load of security chasing him. He gets to see the girl before security catch up with him and return him to his stepdad with a “don’t let him do it again” look before walking away. In reality, the fact that he’s a kid wouldn’t do him many favours, he’d be in some serious shit. He wouldn’t be returned to his stepdad with no consequence, they would both be off to a place very different to their home. The film is set not long after 9/11 and authorities weren’t f***ing around with security breaches at airports in the next few years (and they’re not exactly blasé about it now). There’s also another story in the same film where an English guy goes off to America to get laid because English women don’t find him attractive (nothing to do with the fact that he’s an annoying c***). He reveals that he has no idea where he’s staying. Which means he would never have been let in the country in the first place. UK citizens visiting the US must provide an address of where they’re staying (even if it’s a hotel, you might need proof of a booking). Without doing so, you’d be detained and eventually put in a plane back to England. This actually happened to a friend of mine although in his case he did know where he was staying, he just didn’t know the actual address as his girlfriend in the US didn’t tell him her address because she was picking him up at the airport and they didn’t know you needed to put the address on the old Visa waiver form. Fortunately for him, they took him to a side room where he explained the situation and that his girlfriend was somewhere in the airport. They contacted her and when his story was confirmed, they allowed him in. I know, its a fictional rom-com and shouldn’t be taken seriously. But as someone who has flown between the US and UK about fifty times and knows very well how serious airport security and Customs officials are (rightfully so, I have no issue with them doing what they need to do), it angers me. THANK YOU! You beat me to it, but THANK YOU! That airport scene in Love, Actually annoyed the hell out of me, rom-com or not! Not to mention the school having their nativity play on Christmas Eve in what looks like a small arena.

Like... everything that happened in the courtroom in The Untouchables is some of the absolute dumbest shit in any movie I've seen.

Touched on by others but how easy it is for characters to pack up their lives and move many miles away within a couple of days, often internationally.

I was sitting down chatting with my mom as she was watching the Hallmark Xmas movie last night and a plot point in it was time travel during a christmas moon or a Blue Moon on December 24th... you can see my problem with this. I was fine with the time travel but not with f***ing of the moon's orbit. maybe they meant the other meaning of Blue Moon Krakatoa exploding on Christmas makes miracles! Peter not being a U.S. Citizen because he waz born in Mexico in Padre De Familia. Thats NOT how citizenship works Family Guy! Also like... finding out when you're 45 and presumably your parents having been paying taxes your entire life... the IRS probably would have some questions... Obviously it varies by city and/or state, but whenever I see a show or movie where something like drunk guy walking around at 2am or really sad guy just out walking late night, and they enter a church and just vent themselves to no one or 'breakdown and pray to God'. All I can think of while happening is in all the states I've lived, never seen a church open that late. Maybe some are, just no where I've lived. I dunno... most churches around me don't really "close" they may not have like a priest sitting in there but the building itself is usually open.

I was watching one of those "real" bigfoot hunting shows like 5 years ago and they built this giant steel cage to catch him. They baited it with like dog food and waited. Well, the cage was triggered so all the hillbillies ran over to see their prize. The cage was empty. Instead of being like "Oh, maybe a small animal triggered it" or "maybe that storm last night triggered it", the immediate answer they all agreed to was that Bigfoot escaped the cage by using his elemental powers to transcend into the spiritual plane of existence, thus allowed him to simply phase thru the steel of the cage. They where like "well yeah everybody knows that". Well then WHY DID YOU TRY TO CATCH HIM IN A STEEL CAGE BOBBY-JOE? WHAT IN THE BLUE F$#% DID YOU THINK WAS GOING TO HAPPEN!!! ? There was a game show called '10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty' (The safest 10 million dollar bet ever placed) where they had alleged Bigfoot hunters attempt to gather and show off evidence along with various challenges. They would use a lot of those same excuses. It's amazing that when something doesn't actually exist you can just make shit up about what magical powers they have... >_> Like how everyone knows Nessy is a great beatboxer and can travel through time >_>
