The disease flavor of 'a very special episode' where if it's a minor character, they die from supercancerAIDs and are never mentioned again. If it's about a major character, they turn out 100% fine and never mention the supercancerAIDS again. Emmy Cancer as Allison Preglar calls it … Baywatch did this a lot.

Sometimes they are good, but it feels like 90 percent of animated shows have a Willy Wonka parody, Fantastic Voyage parody, or Wizard of Oz parody. Again, not all of these are bad, and some are even very good episodes, but I am glad that the ubiquity of these is dying down a bit. They don't all need to be in every goddamn show.

I also would say Season 1 of alot of shows.
When I want to dip into an old show while I want to start from the beginning, if its one I been meaning to watch I'd rather jusdge it based off of Season 2 or 3 , since Season 1 for alot of shows is the odd season and finding what works. (tho funny enough I love Star Trek's TNG 1st season for this reason).

File me under "simple misunderstanding that can be explained and smoothed over in 3 minutes causes sometimes seasons long tension where nobody acts like a believable human being" as well

The goddamn musical episode. All musicals suck. All of em. Yes even that one. The Buffy one actually had plenty of overall story progression though. Everyone in the episode thought it was damned weird at first, then realized when they were forced to sing while their filters were lowered and EVERYONE said all of the things that they were thinking but refused to say because it would hurt those they cared about. - Buffy spilled the beans that the Scoobies actually yanked her out of Heaven when they resurrected her, as opposed to the hell they thought they were saving her from. - Spike told Buffy off for only confiding in him because she thought that he did not matter at all and therefore his feelings on anything did not matter. She dangled the possibility that she had reconsidered her thoughts on him when he, in essence, played the role of inanimate object that she may as well have been talking to. That changed their path and allowed their relationship to be, well, whatever in the hell it wound up being. Your mileage will definitely vary there. - Xander and Anya laid out all of their shared reservations for their engagement, which came to roost later in the season. - This episode laid the groundwork for Willow and Tara's breakup. - This episode also laid the groundwork for Giles to up and smurf off and stop being Buffy's watcher.

also for both... A Christmas Carol Barring Blackadder. there's a bunch of Christmas Carol adapatations I like... but at one point literally everyone seemed like tehy wanted to put their own spin on it... and it's basically all been done before. Blackadder's subversion of it was spectacular though.

Boys vs girls, always has characters of both genders acting out of character and always ends on a cringy hamfisted message.

I’m almost positive in order to get a TV show in the 90’s you had to do that Risky Business parody.

The one that pulled it off pretty well was Married....With Children "It's a Bundyful Life" only for all the banter between Ed O'Neil and Sam Kinison as Al's Guardian Angel.
